After the Titanic sank and Jack died of hypothermia, Cal searched for Rose on the RMS Carpathia, the ship that rescued any survivors from the Titanic. Although Rose had survived and been rescued, she hid from him and avoided him. Cal, assuming that Rose was dead, later married another woman.
Afterwards, he desperately searched for Rose while on the RMS Carpathia but could not find her and believed she had died in the shipwreck, although she had actually escaped and was avoiding him, by hiding in a blanket.
In the movie "Titanic," Cal Hockley did not know that Rose was a third-class passenger until after he boarded the ship. When he saw her with Jack Dawson, he realized that she was not in the first class, and he was visibly upset by it.
It is not known where and when the two met, but eventually became engaged and planned to be wed in the United States (their reason for boarding the RMS Titanic), despite their rather large age difference (Cal was 30 and Rose was 17 when they boarded the Titanic.)
The note is written on Titanic stationary, with a red White Star Line flag printed on the left, and “On board R.M.S. “TITANIC”” at the right. Bellow the letterhead is Rose's note, which reads: “Darling now you can keep us both locked in your safe — Rose” printed in black ink.
(at around 1h 25 mins) Although her fingers partially obscure it, the coin that Rose pays to Jack is generally agreed to be a Barber dime, minted 1892-1916, not a modern dime, as some viewers have incorrectly asserted.
When an officer asked her name, Rose changed it to “Rose Dawson” to honor Jack's memory and further avoid being found by Cal and Ruth. Rose's name changed again years later after she got married, but she never got over Jack and their short-lived but intense romance on board the Titanic.
So we know that Rose married after the disaster, and that she lived and loved him. There's no indication that the pair split and Rose speaks fondly of him their granddaughter.
What was the age difference between Jack and Rose?
However, it is worth noting that some sources suggest Jack could have been as young as 17 or as old as 22. On the other hand, Rose DeWitt Bukater was portrayed as a young woman from a wealthy family. Her age is stated in the movie as 17 years old.
Despite this, it was proven that Jack could have stayed on the raft. “Yes, he could have held on until the lifeboat arrived. Jack could have survived, but there are so many variables. I think Jack's logic was, 'I'm not going to do anything that would put Rose in danger.
The most accepted interpretation, however, is that about Rose dying at the end of Titanic and arriving at the afterlife with Jack and the rest of the passengers, and if so, the white dress hints at her going to heaven with everyone else.
Cal gifted the diamond to Rose onboard the Titanic, as a “reminder of his feelings for her”, and reminded Rose that there was nothing he would deny her, asking her to open her heart to him. Rose wore the diamond when Jack drew her only wearing the necklace, and it was used to frame Jack for stealing it.
That is also how pathologists can tell whether a person was drowned or was dead before hitting the water; if you drop a body post-mortem, it would definitely float. This means that if Jack was dead when Rose pushed him under water, then he would have immediately floated back to the surface.
By the end of Titanic, Rose explained that Cal killed himself after losing his fortune in the Wall Street Crash of 1929, and after the death of Jack, she had a fresh start under a different name. Rose did what Jack made her promise she would do and got married, had kids, and died many, many years later.
As far as proof of his existence goes, the elderly version of Rose says herself toward the movie's end, "He [Jack] exists now… only in my memory." In addition, Jack - whether he's really a figment of his lover's imagination or not - does help Rose save herself from settling for a life she doesn't really want.
The real Rose from Titanic, Beatrice Wood, led a fascinating life that features more than a few similarities to Rose. Like Rose, Beatrice was born into a privileged family which she rejected as a young adult, leaving her home and pursuing a more independent life.
Much drama ensues, involving Rose rescuing Jack from a lower deck as the icy waters approach and engulf them and jumping off the lifeboat she briefly boarded because she can't imagine leaving Jack behind. Thanks to Jack's cool head in a crisis, they survive Titanic's sinking.
You must do me this honor. Promise me you'll survive. That you won't give up, no matter what happens, no matter how hopeless. Promise me now, Rose, and never let go of that promise.
But the 56-carat Coeur de la Mer (Heart of the Ocean)—the pendant that Cal Hockley places around the neck of his fiancée, Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet), as if it were a pricey millstone—is fictional.
Some sources say they had whereas others deny this. As per the Titanic Question and Answer page from Movie Mistakes, When he says at breakfast "wife in practice" he's saying that yes, they indeed sleep together which is also why she isn't hesitant about sleeping with Jack so quickly.
We can presume rose never speaks to her mother again. Her mother spends the rest of her life believing her only child is dead. Shes a woman in her late 40s to mid 50s. She is passed her age of fertility so she won't be starting a new family.
