From working in secret as one of the founders of the Rebel Alliance to openly leading the New Republic as the first elected Chancellor in two decades, Mon Mothma of Chandrila has built a career out of carefully navigating the dangerous shadows of Coruscant politics in her efforts to restore democracy.
Senators Bail Organa and Mon Mothma began laying the foundations for rebellion during the Clone Wars. In the years after the Clone Wars, disconnected resistance movements began to crop up throughout the galaxy to combat the Empire.
Mon Mothma was a key member in starting the Rebellion. During the Galactic Civil War, Mon Mothma openly defied the Emperor, unlike Bail Organa and other senators who only secretly backed the Rebellion.
Mon Mothma also became a recurring character on animated shows Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Rebels, which served to flesh out the somewhat limited backstory she had up to that point. The character returns in her oldest form yet in the Disney+ series Andor where she is depicted as the Chancellor of the New Republic.
What happened to Mon Mothma after the return of the Jedi?
After the reorganization of the Republic into the Galactic Empire at the end of the war, Mothma retained her seat in the now-Imperial Senate, but she began organizing underground resistance movements to combat the Imperial government alongside militant Luthen Rael and fellow senator Bail Organa of Alderaan.
After Palpatine declared himself Emperor, Mothma continued to speak for the galaxy's people in the Senate while secretly working with Organa to create a Rebellion dedicated to overthrowing his rule.
Originally a Chandrilan senator of the Galactic Republic and later the corrupt Empire that took its place, Mon Mothma publicly opposed Emperor Palpatine's authority for as long as she could before eventually feeding the Imperial core to become a leading figure of the growing Rebellion.
Mon Mothma is likely unaware of Palpatine's Sith Lordship, as only the surviving Jedi Knights Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi know of Palpatine's Darth Sidious identity, but one does not need to be a Sith Lord to be a tyrant.
The Royal Guard actually may not have known, unless they were Force Sensitive, or saw the Emperor using his powers. The upper levels of the Rebel leadership probably knew, thanks to Bail Organa (Mon Mothma, Bel Garm, Admiral Ackbar, General Riekian, General Madine).
It would appear that Mon Mothma, Padme's close friend and confidant, was also aware of the Skywalker secret, though she likely was unaware of Darth Vader's true identity. Luke and Leia's existence after the rise of the Empire remains one of the galaxy's most closely guarded secrets.
At this point in galactic history, Bail Organa is the only person alive who knows that Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi are still alive. It's clear that even Mon Mothma doesn't know who his “Jedi friend” is – it's a testament to Bail's integrity that he's kept this secret for nearly two decades.

Cool-headed and pragmatic, Andor worked as an operative in Alliance Intelligence for most of his time in the Rebellion.
Andor joined the early Rebellion, which later became the Alliance to Restore the Republic, after being recruited by General Davits Draven, who was a fellow veteran of the Clone Wars and became Andor's case officer.

After the foundation of the New Republic, Lieda spent time convalescing on the planet New Alderaan. She later resided with her mother on the planet Coruscant, where Mon passed away in 24 ABY.
During the search for the new Death Star, two dozen Bothans sacrificed their lives in order to attain the technical specifications for the space station. Furthermore, they learnt that the Emperor himself intended to inspect the Death Star II, which paved the way for a Rebel attack at the unfinished weapon around Endor.
