Back in Sydney Harbour, Marlin leaves Dory to head home. But, little does he know that Nemo's managed to get himself flushed down a drain and has popped up back in the harbor, too. Father and son are finally reunited, but not before Dory gets trapped in a fisherman's net.
We watched the early scenes about Nemo's charming life with her father, just the two of them living on an island and caring for a lighthouse. We heard bedtime stories about Nemo's father's adventures with the mysterious, adventurous Flip in Slumberland. But then Nemo lost her father in a horrible sea storm.
She uses the pearl to wake Flip up, which proves that she's no longer afraid of being alone after her father's death, so the nightmare disappears. Pig – Nemo's soft toy pig who becomes real in Slumberland – managed to eat another pearl though and she uses it to see her father at the lighthouse again.
Nemo being a figment of Marlin's subconscious makes this all the more believable, with the absent-minded Dory also possibly being a manifestation of Marlin's consciousness as it guides him through the process.
Andrew Stanton wrote and directed the film. The inspiration for Finding Nemo sprang from multiple experiences, going back to director Andrew Stanton's childhood, when he loved going to the dentist to see the fish tank, assuming that the fish were from the ocean and wanted to go home.
