Did Percy send Medusa's head to Olympus in the book?
He places a great deal of faith in his father by jumping off the arch, knowing that a mortal would not survive. Percy also demonstrates that he is more than just the son of Poseidon when he decides to mail Medusa's head to Olympus, despite warnings that doing so is impetuous.
In the novel "Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" by Rick Riordan, Percy sends Medusa's head to Mount Olympus as a gift to his father, Poseidon, and to the other Olympian gods.
Perseus, passing by, saw the princess and fell in love with her. He turned the sea monster to stone by showing it Medusa's head and afterward married Andromeda. Later Perseus gave the Gorgon's head to Athena, who placed it on her shield, and gave his other accoutrements to Hermes.

This is the chapter where Annabeth first kissed Percy, right before he was blasted to Calypso's island. Enjoy! I had my invisible cap on, and Percy was no where to be seen.
She dislikes him at first, but they become good friends over the course of the series, and eventually Percy confesses his feelings for her. Their relationship deepens in the Heroes of Olympus series. Percy imagines himself going to college with Annabeth and eventually marrying her.
Of course, Percy refuses to fall into her trap. He ends up following in the footsteps of his namesake and beheading Medusa. But he does this to protect his friends, not Poseidon and Athena. Despite her demise, Medusa does real damage to Percy and Annabeth's perception of their parents.
