Despite this, Sauron's ability for care was not completely gone. After Morgoth's defeat and imprisonment, Sauron once again began to feel remorse for the terrible acts he performed under Morgoth's service, and very nearly repented for his crimes.
Sauron did not truly repent. He saw the might and power of the armies of the West and he was afraid. He saw them defeat and force Morgoth into the Void, and Morgoth was his chosen leader! The one he had known to be powerful, more powerful even than most of the Valar.
In that brief moment, Sauron regretted ever forging the One Ring, for he now understood the possibility of him losing again was real. He had grossly miscalculated his steps, as, in his mind, Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) was supposedly the person who bore the One Ring.
[Sauron] repents in fear when the First Enemy is utterly defeated, but in the end does not do as was commanded, return to the judgement of the gods. He lingers in Middle-earth.
At that point, Sauron was repentant, but he was too proud to return to Valinor and accept judgment. So, he hid in Middle-earth, got over his repentant phase and came up with a new plan for domination. In contrast, The Rings of Power took the idea of a repentant Sauron to the next level.
Sauron seemed to genuinely feel a connection to her, and part of that came from sensing the darkness inside of Galadriel. In that regard, his offer was really a seduction to the dark side.
Halbrand does not deny his heroism out of bashful humility, though; he knows that as Sauron, he's not the hero she wants him to be for the Southlands -- not when his plans involve scorching it into Mordor. No, Halbrand was never a hero, nor did he ever claim to be.
Sauron's deepest fear was that Aragorn would use the Ring against him. With its powers of domination, Aragorn could comfortably take over the entirety of Sauron's dark army. Though this would eventually corrupt Aragorn, it would allow him to destroy Sauron and take his place.
In the finale, the three white-robed witches (The Ascetic, The Nomad and The Dweller) finally voiced what a lot of fans were thinking: the Stranger was Sauron. They explained that he couldn't remember his identity because the Valar had placed a veil over his mind.
Sauron's only interest was an order or to work upon the world in an orderly state, even in the beginning, Mairon really had no love interest. Despite his deceptive attributes, he was a trickster and a seducer, he had little care for attempting to love someone.
At this, Halbrands mind control shifts slightly, and he replies “My task was ensuring peace. But I learned, that was Sauron's task too. He was seeking a power, not to destroy Middle Earth, but to heal it”.
Although Sauron's origins are angelic, he becomes captivated by the idea of ordering things as per his own will, which might be a possible reason behind him being lured by Morgoth, a Dark Lord who corrupted countless souls and waged wars against Elves and Men throughout the First Age.
Sauron wants Galadriel to become his queen because she's useful, says Vickers. As he's already shown, Sauron can accomplish his objectives much more quickly when he has a highly regarded Elf warrior to get him into places like Numenor and Eregion (where Celebrimbor lives). “He feels a connection to her.
Both J. R. R. Tolkien's novel and Peter Jackson's film adaptations introduced Saruman as a wise and trustworthy figure. However, when Gandalf traveled to Isengard to seek his aid, he learned that his old friend had given in to the evil influence of the Dark Lord Sauron.
Later on, when Morgoth was finally defeated and banished into the Timeless Void during the War of Wrath, Sauron briefly repented and went to Eönwë asking forgiveness so that he wouldn't face punishment by the Valar, but Eönwë told him that he would have to face Manwë's judgment.
In his notes, Tolkien remarks that Sauron saw Galadriel as his equal. Add that to the fact that she's untrusting of Sauron (yes, even when he's in his Annatar guise) and an unwavering, single-minded force, and it's more likely than not that Sauron feared Galadriel — or the potential she held to upend his plans.
Vickers' comments imply that Sauron's intentions with Galadriel were primarily political in his dealings with the elves and that he was using her to elevate his power as a ruler over middle earth.
Take note, then, that at the root of Gandalf's quest is fear -fear of Sauron in particular. We are not told exactly why -but Sauron is a fellow Maiar, an angelic being who chose to follow Morgoth at the beginning.
Melkor is the most powerful of the Valar but he turns to darkness and is renamed Morgoth, the primary antagonist of Arda. All evil in the world of Middle-earth ultimately stems from him. One of the Maiar of Aulë betrays his kind and becomes Morgoth's principal lieutenant and successor, Sauron.
Sauron did not fear as we think of the word. He was very cautious of the men of Numenor and the remaining Noldor in exile. No other force seemed to give him pause since the First Age. This was his undoing.
Smaug the Dragon had destroyed both the Kingdom under the Mountain and the town of Dale, and Gandalf feared that Sauron might use the desolation around Erebor to regain the northern passes in the mountains and the old lands of Angmar.
Nonetheless, it has become increasingly clear over the last few episodes of the Amazon series that there is a strong bond between Galadriel and Halbrand. This bond may have turned into insurmountable love for one another, had they not been destined for different paths.
This revelation refutes any lingering theories that The Stranger (Daniel Weyman), the man who fell from the sky at the start of the season, is in fact Sauron, with the finale confirming he's actually one of the Istari, Tolkien's version of Wizards.
