Tania finds a metal flower on her doorstep, giving her hope that Wikus is still alive. Wikus, now fully transformed into a Prawn, is shown in a junkyard crafting flowers for his wife.
When the movie's main character, MNU agent Wikus van de Merwe (Sharlto Copley), was sprayed with a liquid fuel that would help the prawns escape earth, he became quite ill, kicking off his own transformation into a prawn.
Christopher initally refuses to leave him, but Wikus convinces him to and Christopher promises to return in three years to cure Wikus and makes it to the drop ship where he reunites with his son.
The Fluid probably powers their everyday technology on their home planet. It also seems to contain prawn DNA, where the observed effects of coming into contact with Wikus seemed to initiate a genetic reaction, eventually resulting in his apparent transformation into a Prawn.
The prawns, aliens, outlanders, or non-humans of District 9 are a spacefaring race of sentient beings, with highly advanced technology and spaceship engineering. Their reasons for coming and/or colonizing on Earth are unknown so far.
After teasing his interest in the idea ever since the release of District 9, Blomkamp revealed that development in the District 10 script had officially begun and that he would be co-writing the sequel with Sharlto Copley and Terri Tatchell.
Sharlto Copley as Wikus van de Merwe, a mild-mannered, shy, bumbling, awkward bureaucrat at the MNU Department of Alien Affairs, who becomes infected with an alien fluid, slowly turning him into one of the "prawns".
The alien race's true name is never learned; they are primarily referred to as "prawns", a derogatory term referring to the bottom-feeding sea creature they resemble or, more rarely, "non-humans". Overcrowding and militarization eventually turn the area into a slum known as District 9.
The final shot of the film shows that Wikus has fully transformed into an alien and leaves anonymous gifts at his wife's door to show he's still thinking of her. Audiences might eventually learn more about Wikus, as director Neill Blomkamp has said he'd like to finish the Wikus/Christopher story.

District 10, the long-awaited District 9 sequel, is possibly writer and director Neill Blomkamp's chance to right the wrongs of his cursed film career. The breakout movie that kicked off Blomkamp's career, District 9 is a science fiction-found footage drama set in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Akunyili explained, "We feel very bad about this because the film clearly denigrated Nigeria's image by portraying us as if we are cannibals, we are criminals." Yet, for all the promise of this intriguing and original setup, plans for the District 9 sequel have never really materialized – thanks in part to Blomkamp's chequered directorial record. In the years since District 9, was released, Neill Blomkamp's career has been slightly derailed by a succession of flops.
Their reasons for coming and/or colonizing on Earth seem to be extreme poverty and mistreatment, as shown by the fact that they were, "living in conditions that were, really not so good", before their arrival on Earth.
Directed by Neill Blomkamp and based on his short-film Alive in Joburg, it is a science-fiction film about an alien race that landed on earth in Johannesburg back in 1982 because their ship broke down, and has been sequestered in squalid living conditions for 25 years under oppressive human rule.
The story, adapted from Alive in Joburg, a 2005 short film directed by Blomkamp and produced by Sharlto Copley and Simon Hansen, pivots on the themes of xenophobia and social segregation. The title and premise of District 9 were inspired by events that took place in District Six, Cape Town during the apartheid era.
It's pretty clear that Wikus becomes a full-on alien by the end of District 9, and you'd be forgiven for wondering if there's any scrap of humanity left in him at all. Throughout the film, Wikus slowly loses control of himself and acts in increasingly strange, alien ways.
Using a mockumentary style and referencing real-world instances of segregation and refugee crises, the opening of District 9 sets the film up to be a stark and bleak examination of the nature of systemic injustices and racial prejudice.
Chappie, District 9, and Elysium were connected by the Tetravaal conglomerate: the morally dubious company at the center of Chappie. Chappie focused on Tetravaal's robotics division. The logos for Tetravaal's security divisions could be spotted in the found footage hit District 9.
To this day, District 9 is one of my favorite movies. It is a masterpiece, evoking emotion with artistic imagery and superb acting. I love the plot, the effects, and how the allegory for the apartheid is carefully worked in, but visible to all viewers. A must-see for all sci-fi fans!!
In the 74th and 75th Hunger Games, both female tributes from District 10 died during the Cornucopia bloodbath, while the male tributes survived a bit longer, but then later died from an unknown cause. This is the opposite of District 5.
