Given the situations she is living under, her depression and inability to cope makes some sense, but it leaves Katniss with a lot of responsibility. It's definitely unfair that Katniss has to worry about providing and caring for her family.
While she manages to escape both Games with her life, she is left suffering significant psychological distress and displays symptoms consistent with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Katniss seems to meet the criteria for both PTSD and major depressive disorder. Believing herself to be “broken,” she has a hard time enjoying herself and is devastated and without hope, especially after the bombing of District 12.
The initial cause of Katniss anxiety appears because of her past memory of the mine accident that killed her father. This bitter reality traumatized her then she start to hallucinate that she could save her father. The accidents also caused her mother to fall into a deep depression and sadness.
Katniss Everdeen watched several District tributes die during both her times in the arena in The Hunger Games, but she was especially impacted by the death of Cecelia in the Quarter Quell.
Katniss is rendered deaf in one ear after she blows up the Careers' supplies, and she doesn't regain any hearing on her left side until afterwards when the Capitol gives her a hearing aid.
Katniss comes close to crying, something she knows she mustn't do because it would indicate weakness to the other tributes and make her look vulnerable; thankfully, Haymitch distracts the crowd and the cameras by stumbling off stage.
In the end, Katniss and Gale grew apart, as many childhood friends and young loves do. She needed something different in her life, and with Gale's link to Primrose's death, Katniss found a reason to cut ties. If Katniss ever wanted to find comfort again, she knew she had to return to Peeta for the long term.
The recurring mention of a need for water, and Katniss' inability to find any, lets the reader know that this will continue to be a problem, and her growing thirst indicates that she needs to fix this problem quickly if she's going to survive much longer. Again we see Katniss struggling with her emotions about Peeta.
When Peeta talks about how he hopes someone else will kill Thresh, Katniss starts to cry because she doesn't want anyone else to die, which is unacceptable from a tribute in the Hunger Games. Instead, she disguises her tears as homesickness.
After being abandoned by her mother for months after her father's death, Katniss does not trust her and has never really forgiven her. Katniss has also taken over the mothering role of Prim. After volunteering, Katniss tells Mrs. Everdeen that she has to take care of Prim, which her mother promises to.
Katniss is at first so angry with Peeta for his comments, believing that he made her look weak, that when they get off on floor 12, she shoves him. He knocks an urn over, shattering it, and then falls and cuts his hands on the shards.
For example, Katniss Everdeen has a fatal flaw of valuing others (beginning with her sister) and putting herself last. She does this numerous times, especially with Peeta. This major flaw in her character nearly gets her killed several times. She must overcome it to survive.
People who suffer from PTSD can also experience trouble sleeping, which both Katniss and Peeta deal with, exhibit self-destructive or reckless behavior or can be aggressive and irritable. Both tributes also have trouble controlling themselves and often react aggressively to situations that upset them.

In the end, neither Peeta nor Gale is able to kill Katniss. Kept prisoner in her room with no way to kill herself, Katniss realizes that the Capitol is still in control of her life. It chooses when and how it will kill her. As Katniss starves herself, wasting away, she begins to sing.
But through the course of her journey, she reveals her INTJ personality type to the full. Determined, fearless and focussed, Katniss overcomes the immense challenges thrown at her by thinking strategically.
Like the film's portrayal of Katniss' hearing loss, Peeta's leg injury is shown on screen. Due to an earlier leg injury, he is unable to outrun the mutts as easily as Katniss and can't climb to safety as smoothly as she can.
The skills and qualities she developed to cope with the everyday challenges of being poor, including her ability to hunt, her toughness, and her resourcefulness, turn out to be what keeps her alive through the Games.
Katniss feels betrayed, most of all by Haymitch, who used her and Peeta. Eventually she wakes to find Gale there. He's badly injured and tells her the Capitol bombed District 12 after the Games. He got Prim and Katniss's mother out in time, but the District 12 is gone.
Katniss's focus on survival and her family's safety prevented her from fully considering romance, but her feelings for Peeta and Gale diverged in the end. Katniss ultimately chose Peeta because he understood her trauma and she didn't want to lose him, proving her love for him.
Although she will never know for sure, Katniss does recognize that she cannot be with Gale. She will never be able to forgive him for his idea — the parachute bombs — that killed Prim.
She was only 13 years old when she was killed in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, and her youth only makes the tragedy that much harder for Katniss to bear after everything else she had suffered. Prim's death is a truly heartbreaking moment.
Severe, life-threatening, interpersonal violence as well as witnessing atrocities and killing enemies in combat are particular risk factors for the disorder. Additionally, Katniss may have already been at some risk because of her prior trauma exposure, death of her father, and lower socioeconomic status.
