Supergirl and Brainiac 5 joined the Legion of Super-Heroes together. They began a relationship that lasted up until Kara's death in Crisis on Infinite Earths. It was hot and cold romance, with the two sometimes professing their love for each other, and sometimes writing it off as a childhood crush.

One of the things Kara had brought up throughout the show is how she wanted love and family, including romantic love. But, she ends the show single (and not in an empowering way either).
By all accounts Supergirl's marriage to Salkor was a happy one, and learning of his cousin's happiness with Salkor helped Superman come to terms with her death as well.
