In the movie My Girl, Vada Sultenfuss models the symptoms commonly used to diagnose Illness Anxiety Disorder. However, she does not possess this psychological abnormality. As portrayed in the film, Vada exhibits thoughts and behaviors that are not typical of an eleven year old girl.
Her upbringing leads her to suffer from hypochondria and develop an obsession with death, which her father fails to understand. Also living with them is "Gramoo", Vada's paternal grandmother, whose recent dementia accentuates Vada's worries.
Vada is an obvious hypochondriac, adopting the affliction that caused the death of the person most recently brought into the parlour. Her apparent view that the state of dying is in some way contagious or transient illustrates her misunderstanding of the concept.
Illness anxiety disorder was never actually discussed in the film. Vada, however showed symptoms of hypochondria, but she was never truly diagnosed with anything. The moments of the film that did show signs and symptoms of Vada's hypochondria were portrayed well.

Why does Vada always think she's sick?
Character Analysis. Living… in a funeral home with her dad in Madison, Pennsylvania. Thanks to her dad's job as a funeral director, Vada has grown up a bit obsessed with death. This has also caused her to be a major hypochondriac.
In order to cope with her trauma, she takes ecstasy, and Nick has to help her through the resulting high. After another night of drinking, Mia tells Vada that she is falling in love with her, and they have sex.
My Girl part II was one of my childhood movie. The sequel to the storyline in this movie is not very sad like My Girl Part I. Anna Clumsky as big Vada grows up and she is very beautiful. In this movie ahe looks for the figure of her mother, how much she misses her mother because ahe doesn't feel the love of a mother.

At first glance, she may seem mentally sick to the viewer. Upon further examination however, it is clear to see that is not the case.
This dislike of the stylist leads to some shenanigans for both Vada and Thomas. “My Girl” isn't a fast paced movie but it can draw you in. It offers very real world conversations and issues, the central theme being death and how Vada copes with the concept. For Vada, she would almost prefer to believe she's dying.
Vada draws attention to this throughout the movie as she battles with PTSD following the incident. Experiencing aggressive nightmares, having extreme difficulty returning to school, and even in one scene the sound of a soda can being crushed gives her flashbacks sending her into a panic attack as a result of the PTSD.
My Girl. In Madison, Pennsylvania in the summer of 1972, 11-year-old Vada is a tomboy and a hypochondriac. Her father, Harry, is a widower who lives in a funeral parlor and does not understand her. Vada is obsessed with death and cares for her grandmother Gramoo who suffers from Alzeheimer's disease.
However, this moment is interrupted by a news alert about another school shooting in Ohio. The news returns Vada to her trauma, and she is roiled in emotional pain as the movie closes, with the sounds over a black screen suggesting that she is having a panic attack.
The events of the previous film are discussed and should make sense to those who have not seen the original film. Overall a nice little family movie, even pre-teens can enjoy with their family, but sadly it just does not have the impact that its predecessor did.
Vada and Nick argue about her poor coping mechanisms, resulting in her venting to Quinton and then trying to kiss him, who gently rejects her as he is not emotionally ready for a relationship. She withdraws further from her family and friends, including Mia.
Mia wanted to keep her close, not wanting to fall asleep by her side. She admitted if she were to die tomorrow and had one thing to say she wouldn't be able to say it and then kissed Vada. The two together as Vada admitted it later. They both didn't regret it and worried they would ruin their friendship.
'My Girl' Moments That Will Still Make You Cry. Remember when you watched My Girl as a kid and it totally wrecked you? It may be one of the darkest kids movies of the '90s, but it's definitely one of the best — and this film really stands the test of time, heartbreak included.
During this film we see young Vada begin to grow up. Unfortunately, an unexpected death will either drive her back into her previous loneliness, or give her the strength to tell the ones she loves that she cares about them. We award our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal to this film for ages twelve and above.
Vada likes Shelly, but when she sees that Harry has developed a crush on her, she feels threatened. She does not want Shelley to take the place of her late mother, who died two days after Vada was born.
