While Darkseid was fighting Zeus, Ares landed a powerful blow to Darkseid, breaking the latter's spear and wounding his shoulder. The wound caused Darkseid to faint and his parademons had to take him back to his ship.
Darkseid suffered a definitive defeat in the History Lesson and he was fortunate to escape with his life because Ares came incredibly close to killing him. But while the Greek God of War nearly struck the killing blow on Darkseid, the ruler of Apokolips was already substantially weakened by Ares' allies.
However, his invulnerability still has it's limits, as Ares was able to severely wound Darkseid with his axe to the point the wound rendered him unconscious moments after being dragged onto his ship, nearly dying in the process before he recovered back on Apokolips.

Final Crisis. As prophesied, Orion returns to Earth via boom tube for his final battle with Darkseid. During the massive fight, Orion ultimately kills him by ripping his heart out, which created a firepit of Apokolips from Darkseid's chest cavity (in reference to the prophecy of their final battle).

What is Darkseid weak to?
Weaknesses. Vulnerability to Radion: Darkseid and all of the New Gods are vulnerable to a substance called Radion. Its source is unknown and its effects are toxic only in sustained amounts or after explosive exposure. The average New God can be slain by an application of Radion from a Radion blaster or bomb.
Ares embarrassed Zeus and Hera on multiple occasions, such as in his affair with Aphrodite, his excessive violence, and his support of the Trojans in the Trojan War, which betrayed a promise he made to his mother. Not everyone hated Ares though, the militaristic Spartans and Thracians worshipped him.
Weaknesses: Because of his arrogant and brutal nature, Ares can be extremely reckless, overconfident, narcissistic and foolhardy, leading to him making crucial mistakes in a confrontation.
Athena defeated Ares several times. During the Trojan War, she attacked him with a boulder. Athena also helped Heracles (Hercules in Latin) defeat Ares through a non-fatal wound.
Instead, he uses his servants to defeat his enemies for him. Apparently, Darkseid only fights opponents he deems worthy, such as Superman, Batman or Orion. Indomitable Will: Darkseid possesses an extraordinary control over his emotions, despite his reputation of anger and hatred towards all living things.

Although he has been sent back to the underworld time and time again, Ares is never truly killed and can ultimately never be defeated. Thanos may be quicker than the Greek God, but he is in no way as powerful.
Athena is the single most prevalent foe of Ares, the two were the ultimate symbol of war, two siblings with the same station but who were so different they were always ready to fight one another.
Ares loses because he believes that being the God of War means he always wins. If he can lose to someone who isn't on his level powers-wise like Wonder Woman, he'd have even less of a chance against Thor, who can match him in godly might and experience. Thor would beat him silly, making a mockery of Ares.
Was Ares More Evil Than Hades? Hades is the god of the underworld, and while often associated with death, was not considered 'evil. ' Ares's association with the destructive side of war makes him a more controversial figure, though not necessarily more 'evil' than Hades.
Ares was the oldest child of Zeus and was commonly referred to as the most hated god on Mount Olympus by every god, even before being killed by Kratos.
Ares is the anti-villainous/anti-heroic Greek God of War and an enemy of the Marvel superhero Thor, as well as an occasional hero serving alongside the Avengers and Dark Avengers. He is also one of the three arch-enemies of his brother Hercules (alongside Hera and Pluto).
Apparently Zeus loved all his Olympian children. Ares was just generally disliked by all gods for being chaotic and cruel. It might be because the ancient sources we have on this are bias. Most written and preserved myths are from Athens, who obviously favored their patron goddess Athena.
As one of the Justice League's most powerful and skilled warriors, it is unsurprising that Wonder Woman can defeat Darkseid in a one-on-one battle. As both an Old God and an Amazon, Diana of Themyscira possesses physical superpowers that are comparable to those of a Kryptonian, and her fighting skills are unmatched.
He has superhuman speed and strength, and once fought Zeus to a standstill. Thor would certainly be thwarted by Darkseid. This fearsome villain would be able to drain the lifeforce from him, and even his godly weaponry doesn't seem like it could withstand Darkseid's Omega Beams.
Just looking at the numbers, Darkseid would win. His Omega Beams wipe out anything they hit from existance, or in the case of Batman send that person back in time.
