Chucky made his first appearance in the 1988 film Child's Play. In the film, a serial killer named Charles Lee Ray, aka Chucky (Brad Dourif) uses a voodoo ritual inside a toy store to transfer his soul into a Good Guy doll to escape from Detective Mike Norris (Chris Sarandon).
Serial killer Charles Lee Ray is mortally wounded by the police, and in his final moments, uses his skills in voodoo magic to transfer his mortal soul into a 29 inch tall battery-powered doll. Chucky's motivation is to perform one of several rituals to escape his new body and possess the body of another person.
It's simple but effective: the doll is inhabited by the soul of serial killer Charles Lee Ray. After being shot and taking refuge in a toy store, Ray chants a voodoo spell that transfers his soul into one of the Good Guy dolls (aka, the Chucky doll form we've come to know).
Eight years after Chucky's second demise, the Play Pals company resumes manufacturing Good Guy dolls and re-opens the abandoned factory. A splash of blood from Chucky's corpse is inadvertently mixed in with the molten plastic being used to produce the dolls, reviving him in an updated body.
Although Norris finds Charles' dead body, his soul successfully transferred into the doll, which is found by a peddler. The ritual being performed by Charles on a Good Guy. The next morning, Chucky is bought by a woman named Karen, as a last-minute birthday gift for her son Andy.
He only became evil due to his sadistic desire to hurt and kill others, shown when his father was killed by the Hackensack killer, and decided to become just like him because he was inspired by the killers actions.
All seems relatively well until the finale episode reveals that Chucky Prime was able to perform a ritual that allowed him to swap bodies with Dr. Mixter before being killed by Andy.
Summaries. While Andy's mother is admitted to a psychiatric hospital, the young boy is placed in foster care, and Chucky, determined to claim Andy's soul, is not far behind.
The longer he inhabits the doll, the more that doll starts to take on human characteristics, meaning that he can be wounded like a regular person. His other downfall is his heart - not because he's secretly a softy, but because a bullet there can killed him.

Charles Lee Ray was a character known as the Lakeshore Strangler who murdered 22 people before his death in the beginning of Child's Play. He is Chucky's original human form before he transferred his soul into a doll.
Chucky and Tiffany make plans to transfer their souls into Redman and Jennifer. Tiffany knocks them out and uses a turkey baster to inseminate Jennifer with Chucky's semen, intending to use her baby as a host for Glen's soul.
Long before Chucky decided he loved ruining lives as an unassuming doll, he sought to return to a human body. In service of that quest, he aimed to retrieve an amulet that was buried with his human corpse. As the journey began, Chucky revealed his grave was in Hackensack, New Jersey.

Andy flees home, where Chucky knocks him out. As he prepares to possess him, Karen and Norris arrive. Chucky stabs Norris but Karen and Andy light him on fire. A horribly-charred Chucky rises but Karen shoots him, blowing his limbs and head off.
Now I can see why this movie was such a huge success in 1988. Managing to be both frightening and classy,this is a nerve-wracking experience. I actually found "Child's Play" to be a very scary film. I did not find it too gory,but what gore there is it was done to heighten intensity levels to the extreme.

At the end of each film, Chucky dies, and it seems that there is no way he could have possibly survived. He is rebuilt time and time again though because somehow, the Good Guy Doll company “Play Pals” thinks a bloody, cut-up doll needs to be put back together again.
