Thought dead, Darth Maul survived his injuries by focusing on his hatred of Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Jedi who cut him in half. His shattered body was dumped amid the refuse of the junk planet Lotho Minor, where the once deadly warrior fell into madness, staying alive on a diet of vermin.
From there, Maul continued to sustain himself with the dark side, driving him mad until his brother, Savage Oppress, found him and brought him back to Dathomir, where he was revived by Mother Talzin.
Though he killed Jinn, Maul was, in turn, defeated by Kenobi, who bisected the Sith assassin at the waist. Darth Maul was believed to be dead in the aftermath of the battle but ultimately survived, emerging a decade after his defeat, during the height of the Clone Wars.
Sidious revealed to Maul that he did not intend to kill his former apprentice, as he still had use for Maul; it was Sidious' hope that Maul would lead the Sith to Mother Talzin, Maul's mother and the leader of the Nightsisters, so she could be eliminated as a potential threat to the eventual Sith rule of the galaxy.

How did Sidious react to Maul's death?
He regretted it because he had essentially wasted 20 years training him. But since he was an enemy at the time of his death on Tatooine, Sid was glad that he did not have to keep watching his back anymore now that the loose ends were tied off.
Maul's skills, on the other hand, became stagnant as he spent the last few decades of his life keeping himself alive and plotting schemes. Given this, it makes sense Obi-Wan quickly defeated Maul in their final duel in Star Wars Rebels.
He mortally wounds Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn during the Battle of Naboo before being bisected by Qui-Gon's apprentice, Obi-Wan. Fueled by his hatred, Maul survives and is driven insane over a decade of isolation until his brother, Savage Opress, finds him during the Clone Wars.
As the son of Mother Talzin, the Zabrak male was taken from a young age by Sidious to act as his impressionable apprentice. The boy was raised as Darth Maul, a name he carried throughout his life. In Legends, it was insinuated that he was born "Maul" before attaining the honor of the "Darth" title.
In a non-canon story from the pages of Star Wars Tales #9, Darth Maul was resurrected to fight Darth Vader to the death. Ultimately, Darth Vader was named the victor for a pitch-black reason: He hates himself more. In the main Star Wars canon, Darth Vader and Darth Maul never met, let alone fought.
Why is Darth Maul red and not yellow? Darth Maul was originally born a black-skinned Nightbrother, but was later stripped of his markings and given red-skinned Sith tattoos by Darth Sidious. His eyes were also turned yellow with red rims, either due to his touch of the dark side or the eyes he was born with.
Ok so let's get into it Mace Windu survives, The fall but he has lost his weapon and is servilely wounded in now hostile territory. This is why I believe he would go into hiding for some time thoughout the early years of The Galactic Empire.
When he dies in Rebels you see Obi-wan holding the dying body of Maul. This is supposed to represent that he's gone beyond hatred or anger towards Maul, and instead feel pity that it had to end this way.
He had killed his master, Qui-Gon Jinn, for which Obi-Wan got his revenge by slicing the Sith in half. But after Maul took yet another person away from him, Obi-Wan absolutely hated Maul. The Jedi Master almost let his rage and anger get the best of him, growing close to the dark side before he rejected it.
Per canon in the titular story within From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi, Obi-Wan, like the true Jedi he was, gave Maul a proper cremation according to Jedi customs before Order 66.
Maul most likely knew Sidious' double role as Palpatine and Sidious when he served as Palpatine's apprentice. He definitely knew about Palpatine's goal of creating a galactic empire ruled by the Sith. Maul knows that Sidious is the Emperor.
Opress brought Maul back to his homeworld of Dathomir, where the Nightsister Mother Talzin used dark magicks to restore the fallen Sith's mind and body. Maul reemerged, took Opress as his apprentice, and became obsessed with Kenobi.
During the Invasion of Naboo at the climax of The Phantom Menace, Maul first kills Qui-Gon Jinn, then is defeated when Obi-Wan Kenobi bisects him with a shockingly non-fatal blow.
The Sith apprentice Darth Maul struck Qui-Gon down during the battle for Naboo, but the mortally wounded Jedi lived long enough to ask his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, to promise to train Anakin.
When Qui-Gon was killed by Darth Maul, Dooku was so saddened that Qui-Gon's death lead to Dooku's transformation into the Sith Lord Darth Tyranus. He would later provoke the memory against Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jinn's apprentice.
Like his master, Darth Sidious, better known as Sheev Palpatine, Maul's main weakness was his overconfidence. In Luke Skywalker's confrontation with Palpatine during The Return of the Jedi, he tells the Emperor that his overconfidence is his weakness.
It's already been shown in the source material… more than once… that Darth Maul is not on Darth Sidious's level. Every time he dueled Sidious as his apprentice (in Legends) he got easily defeated.
