In this comic issue, Darth Vader is informed by Boba Fett that the Rebel pilot who destroyed the battle station (and briefly battled Vader on Cymoon 1 in issue 2) is named Luke Skywalker, who Vader immediately recognizes as his son.

R2-D2 was present when Padmé gave birth to Leia and Luke, so he knew Luke was Anakin's son – but what he didn't know was that Anakin became Darth Vader. In addition to that, Anakin's fall was surely a painful event in R2-D2's life, one that he definitely wouldn't like to remember or even talk about.
Darth Vader only learned he had a daughter in Return of the Jedi - but there's no evidence he realized she was Leia before his death and redemption. Darth Vader may have never known Princess Leia was his daughter in Star Wars and never cultivated a relationship with her, even when he was a Force ghost.
Alderaan's princess knew she had been adopted by Bail and Breha Organa after the Clone Wars, but she had no idea who her parents were. That was until Luke Skywalker told her the truth - that he was the son of Darth Vader, and that she was his sister.

Although the decision to turn to the Dark Side was Anakin's alone, the choice did not come from thin air. His natural prone to impulsivity and emotion without the support systems he needed in place made it easier for Anakin to stumble down a path of darkness.
Instead of facing him in battle, Luke calls Vader's bluff, challenging him to try and catch Luke in his X-Wing, resulting in the Dark Lord of the Sith sparing Solo to give chase (partly because he believes Luke's friends make him weaker.)
The two recognize Luke's similarities to Anakin and try to prevent him from sharing his father's fate, but they let him remain Luke Skywalker instead of having him go by Luke Lars out of respect for his grandmother, Shmi Skywalker.
Vader's redemption in Return of the Jedi was not just about saving his son; it was also a defiance of the dark side's corruption and his own past as a Sith Lord. Vader's decision to block Luke from killing Palpatine was motivated by his knowledge that it would corrupt Luke and lead him down a similar path of suffering.
More curious, however, is the fact Luke Skywalker - generally seen as the greatest Jedi Master of all - was clearly unaware of Palpatine's resurrection. That's particularly disturbing given the Emperor seduced Ben Solo to the dark side under Luke's watch.
The movies themselves pick up at the end of the conflict, in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. Anakin Skywalker is 22 years old at this point in the timeline, a crucial moment in his life when he falls to the dark side and becomes Darth Vader.

Luke reestablishes the Jedi Order, marries a non-movie (but fan favorite) redheaded Force-wielder named Mara Jade, and they have a son, Ben Skywalker (named in honor of Obi-Wan “Ben” Kenobi).

Kylo Ren was always obsessed with his grandfather. He didn't learn he was the grandson of Darth Vader until he was a teenager, when a recording from Bail Organa - intended to be a private message for Leia - was shared with the entire galaxy.
