In the 74th Hunger Games, Peeta used mud to camouflage himself into rocks at the river bank when he was injured, as Cato stabbed his thigh to the bone and Peeta had no way of healing himself. Katniss Everdeen also used mud to camouflage her bright orange backpack with her surroundings.
Peeta used the dyes to paint a picture of Rue after Katniss covered her with flowers when she died. He says he wants to hold them accountable for killing Rue, and Effie tells him that that kind of thinking is forbidden. Katniss then tells the team she hung a dummy of Seneca Crane.
Peeta learnt it in training, the training all the contenstant went through before they go into the arena and they pick the skill they want. He was rubbish at learning weapons but his artistic skills with cakes gave him a natural boost when it came to learning camouflage in the boot camp.
Peeta urges Katniss to run and stays to fight fellow tribute Cato while she escapes. He survives the encounter with Cato but suffers a stab wound on his leg. He camouflages himself into the rocks and mud alongside a riverbank, slowly dying of blood poisoning until Katniss finds him days later.
So how did Peeta manage to not die or go into organ failure from sepsis after developing a strong infection? We know he got blood poisoning, but that took about two weeks to form according to the books.
It's a vial. At first, Katniss thinks it's anti-infection medicine meant to cure Peeta, but she smells and tastes it and recognizes that it's sleep syrup. She understands why Haymitch sent it. She mixes the medicine in with some mashed-up berries and mint leaves and has Peeta eat it.
Like Katniss, Peeta ended up back in District 12, which was still recovering after being firebombed. By that point, Peeta greatly recovered from the brainwashing, but he still had PTSD from having his mind hijacked. Being in close proximity to Katniss was greatly beneficial as they relied on each other to heal.

I went on the CGI diet, computer-generated images. They just sucked my face down in post-production. There you have it, folks. With the move of a mouse and a stylus, our Peeta was shrunk down via computer cleanse, not juice cleanse.
She's preparing to run when she notices Peeta. He is looking at her and shaking his head as if telling her “no.” The gong sounds, and because Katniss was distracted by Peeta, she misses her chance.
For Peeta to look like he was tortured, many think he went on an extreme diet. But in reality, they used CGI to slim his face and make him look abused and beaten.
In Chapter 9, as Caesar Flickerman interviews Peeta before the Games, Peeta reveals to Caesar and all of Panem that he's in love with Katniss. Peeta's revelation sets in motion the storyline of him and Katniss as ill-fated lovers that carries on throughout the Games.
Through The Hunger Games, He is patient, empathetic and selfless in a way that Gale isn't. Peeta understands that Katniss is not in a position where she can make a definitive decision about whether she wants to be with him or Gale.
He leaves a single, perfect white rose for Katniss in her old house when she visits what is left of her district. This is a sign to Katniss that she can do nothing without his knowledge, and it serves the purpose of unnerving her.
While the Hunger Games film never talked about it, the Catching Fire novel explained why she could only communicate through hand gestures. Katniss briefly mentioned that a previous stroke could have caused Mags' garbled speech. However, post-traumatic stress disorder could have also caused her speech incapacity.
While Peeta's paintings are vivid and beautifully done, Katniss hates them because he has painted various scenes from the Hunger Games. They are very lifelike and bring up painful memories for Katniss, who finds out that Peeta has also been having nightmares since the Games.
As she approaches him, Peeta wraps his hands around her neck and throws Katniss around the room. He begins to strangle her, nearly killing her. He is wild, unable to be stopped, at least until Boggs knocks him out with a metal tray.
Given that she is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect Peeta, it's safe to assume that the Morphling was committed to the rebel cause. Like the other victors, she knows the power that Katniss has as a lightning rod for the rebellion, and she knows that Katniss will not help without Peeta.
Because of the timing of the movie, the producers have put an emphasis on Peeta's feminine side by making him shorter, skinnier than Katniss, and by also making his behavior whinier. These differences have definitely impacted how the audience feels about Peeta's character.
Who cleans the blood off Katniss's face and hands?
The red-haired Avox comes into the room. Katniss apologizes to the Avox for not helping her when the Avox was captured. The Avox is kind to Katniss, washes Katniss' face and helps her clean up the room.
With a maximum score of 12, Finnick's strength, speed, and immense skill with a trident would have been enough to defeat any opponent in the arena. That, combined with his charm, would have allowed him to receive the best and most donations while in the arena.
Katniss and Peeta were the first and only tributes to receive a 12. During the 71st Hunger Games, Johanna Mason kept up a guise of weakness, so she presumably got a low score on purpose. "A few years" before the 74th Hunger Games, an unknown male victor only received a score of three.
It took time for Peeta to break out of that conditioning, and even when the possibility existed that Peeta could be a danger to Katniss, the two of them still elected to be together and build a future in a post-Hunger-Games world. Their love for one another is evident.
Mutts -- short for muttation -- are genetically engineered creatures used by The Capitol. They've been used in combat, to spy on citizens in individual districts and, most notably, to liven up The Hunger Games for the audience.
Black, oily matter spouts like a geyser from the street, billowing between the buildings, creating an impenetrable wall of darkness. It seems to be neither liquid nor gas, mechanical nor natural. So it's a tarlike substance designed to drown people.
