To put a stop to his friend's erratic behavior, Rhodes put on Tony's older Mark II armor, leading to a brawl between the two. In the wake of this, Rhodes took the Mark II suit to Edwards Air Force Base, where Rhodes' superiors called in Stark rival Justin Hammer to outfit the armor with additional weapons.
He is initially depicted as a U.S. Air Force officer who is the best friend of Tony Stark. A skilled pilot and tactician, he becomes involved in Stark's heroic efforts, gaining his own suit of Iron Man armor in the process while taking on the alias War Machine, and later the Iron Patriot.

It can also be controlled via a remote A.I. system. Repulsors: Like most Iron Man armors, the War Machine armor can use its flight repulsors to fire powerful concussive energy blasts. Rhodes and Stark used their combined repulsors to defeat Whiplash, recreating their scuffle at Stark's mansion.

Rhodes becomes a superhero by using the War Machine armor. His first version of this armor, the "Variable Threat Response Battle Suit", was equipped with heavy weapons for more direct combat than the standard Iron Man armor.
Weaknesses. The War Machine armor isn't as fast as the Iron Man armor. It wasn't designed for operation in the coldness of space or underwater. Tony later upgraded the armor to eliminate those weaknesses.
Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com, director Ali Selim has confirmed that the dark theory that Rhodey has been a Skrull ever since Captain America: Civil War is actually true. "Yep. He's been a Skrull the whole time, yeah," Selim revealed, adding that the reveal has "massive implications" for the MCU.

War Machine would kick Falcon's butt. War Machine has his armor, guns up the wazoo and pulsar beams. Falcon has his wings and some kind of projectile he shoots. In my oponion War Machine would win hands down.
After saving the world, making a play to sacrifice himself, and defeating Thanos' army, he was not able to lift Mjolnir in Age of Ultron. This shows that being a hero and doing occasional good deeds does not make you worthy. Tony wasn't a bad guy per se, but certainly not his best self yet.
Tony Stark's best friend, James Rhodes, is one of the few to wear the Iron Man armor, other than Tony Stark himself. Although he initially took on the role when Stark was dealing with his demons, Rhodes has reprised the role over the years.
