Is Odin actually Loki?
The son of giants, Loki is actually considered to be a type of Jotunn or giant rather than a member of the Aesir, the ruling class of gods in Norse mythology. He is the "blood-brother" of Odin, the Aesir king, and the husband of the goddess Sigyn.
She is the child of Loki (albeit a different incarnation who died during a previous Asgardian Ragnarok) and the giantess Angrboða. When she came of age, Odin appointed her as the Goddess of the Dead, giving her rulership over the dead in the realms of Hel and Niflheim.
Technically speaking, the real Loki — or rather, the Loki that fans have watched since 2011 — is still dead. The version in the series is from a different timeline, and he is at a distinct point in his character growth.
