The explosions knock the wind out of Katniss and cause her to lose hearing in both of her ears. She knows that the Careers will be coming back to see what's become of their camp, but she can't stand.
Katniss is rendered deaf in one ear after she blows up the Careers' supplies, and she doesn't regain any hearing on her left side until afterwards when the Capitol gives her a hearing aid.

Katniss is fearful of going deaf because she relies on her hearing as much as her sight for hunting. Katniss pulls her hood over her head and ties it at her chin. Katniss keeps moving because she doesn't want Prim to see her die a brutal death at the hands of Cato.
Haymitch suffers from PTSD ever since he was in the games. Because of the way he won his games he was punished by The Capitol leaving Haymitch with no loved ones. Haymitch drinks to cope with this and the fact he has to mentor tributes year after year like pigs to the slaughter.
People who suffer from PTSD can also experience trouble sleeping, which both Katniss and Peeta deal with, exhibit self-destructive or reckless behavior or can be aggressive and irritable. Both tributes also have trouble controlling themselves and often react aggressively to situations that upset them.
Peeta urges Katniss to run and stays to fight fellow tribute Cato while she escapes. He survives the encounter with Cato but suffers a stab wound on his leg. He camouflages himself into the rocks and mud alongside a riverbank, slowly dying of blood poisoning until Katniss finds him days later.

In the film, Thresh's odds of winning change from 10–1 to 11–1. Afterward, they increase from 11–1 to 8–1. In The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2, Katniss states that Cato killed Thresh. It is so rare that we see a main character in mainstream media who has a disability that is not a focus of the story, and this is why I was so disappointed in the movie. In the book, Peeta is an amputee, but that is merely a part of who he is and does not take over the storyline in any way, shape, or form.
What does he mean by this? It means that during the arena, during his killing spree, he realizes that there's more to life than killing, and he's just a pawn in the whole scheme of things. Peeta used the dyes to paint a picture of Rue after Katniss covered her with flowers when she died. He says he wants to hold them accountable for killing Rue, and Effie tells him that that kind of thinking is forbidden. Katniss then tells the team she hung a dummy of Seneca Crane.
I'm re-reading the hunger games books in this glorious hg renaissance and I'm trying to figure out in my head how many days passed between cato stabbing peeta in the legs after the tracker jackers and Katniss finding him at the lake.
Given that she is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect Peeta, it's safe to assume that the Morphling was committed to the rebel cause. Like the other victors, she knows the power that Katniss has as a lightning rod for the rebellion, and she knows that Katniss will not help without Peeta.
It took time for Peeta to break out of that conditioning, and even when the possibility existed that Peeta could be a danger to Katniss, the two of them still elected to be together and build a future in a post-Hunger-Games world. Their love for one another is evident.
Like the film's portrayal of Katniss' hearing loss, Peeta's leg injury is shown on screen. Due to an earlier leg injury, he is unable to outrun the mutts as easily as Katniss and can't climb to safety as smoothly as she can.
Like Katniss, Peeta ended up back in District 12, which was still recovering after being firebombed. By that point, Peeta greatly recovered from the brainwashing, but he still had PTSD from having his mind hijacked. Being in close proximity to Katniss was greatly beneficial as they relied on each other to heal.
While in the woods, Haymitch runs into three career tributes. He's outmanned but not outgunned as he quickly kills two of them with his knife. The final tribute manages to disarm him, and as they go in for the kill fellow District 12 tribute Maysilee Donner kills the career with a dart.
The rules for the second Quarter Quell stipulated that double the number of tributes were to be reaped from the districts for the Games. At the age of 16, Haymitch was reaped as one of District 12's two male tributes for the 50th Hunger Games alongside Maysilee Donner and another female tribute.
