In passage through equatorial Africa as a young man, Kravinoff (who anglicized his name to Kraven) discovers his natural talent for hunting. He soon departs the safari to live on his own in the African veldt. By adulthood, his hunting skills are legendary, and he quickly becomes a wealthy big game hunter.
At first, the hunter ingested various herbal potions to temporarily enhance his strength and agility, but these weren't enough to stand up to foes like Spider-Man. Eventually, Kraven took a powerful magical potion conjured by Calypso, giving him superhuman strength, speed, stamina, agility, endurance, and reflexes.
He is a former Russian aristocrat and big game hunter that is unrivalled in his abilities, constantly seeking new prey in order to challenge himself. After learning about the existence of Spider-Man, Kraven would become obsessed with hunting and defeating him, believing him to be his ultimate prey.

Although Kraven claims that defeating Spider-Man would earn him his claim as the world's best hunter, it seems more likely that him being able to defeat Wolverine, a world class tracker and animalistic fighter, would truly bestow this title upon him.
Sometime before coming to New York City, Kraven was diagnosed with late stage, inoperable cancer so he sought to die as he lived, as a hunter and began seeking out the most powerful prey; animal or otherwise so he could force them to kill him and let him die on his own terms.

By far the most brutal death is when Deadpool kills Spider-Man while wearing the Venom symbiote. Deadpool uses the symbiote's ability to bypass Peter's spider-sense in order to ambush him.
