Some time has passed between the Avatar timeline and that of the sequel as Avatar: The Way of Water starts more than a decade after the first film's climactic battle between Na'vi warriors and the RDA soldiers led by Miles Quaritch. More specifically, Avatar 2 appears to take place 14 years later.
16. Set nearly 15 years after the original film, the movie focuses on erstwhile human soldier Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) who fell in love with the planet of Pandora and the Na'vi warrior Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) in the first film. Jake left his human body to become a Na'vi himself.
Plainly, the major reason why Avatar 2 took so long is the long pre-production state, a result of Cameron's commitment to the special effects that set Avatar apart from other films of its time to begin with.
However, James Cameron's Avatar sequel was supposed to hit theaters in 2014 and then again in 2020. The reason it took so long was that James Cameron wanted to get everything exactly right. He had a new Na'vi tribe, the Metkayina, and the action moved to the water, which brought its own complications.

Filming wrapped in December 2020. In February 2024, Cameron gave the following update on Avatar 3: It's pretty much in the can. We're shooting pick-ups on 3, which is just filling in the last 2 or 3%, and we've also got live-action pick-ups in June, that's another couple percent.
The four films have an overarching meta-narrative that connects them to create a large interconnected saga. Cameron described the sequels as "a natural extension of all the themes, and the characters, and the spiritual undercurrents" of the first film.

The Walt Disney Co. on Tuesday pushed the release of “Avatar 3” a year, bumping it from December 2024 to December 2025. The timeline is stretched even further for the next planned installments. “Avatar 4” is now slated to hit theaters in December 2029; “Avatar 5” is set to arrive in December 2031.

Unless that theory is true, Grace was impregnated by someone. Kiri's brothers joke that the scientist Norm could be her father. The movie does not reveal much information about the birth of Kiri. It is unclear whether Kiri was conceived before Grace died and her avatar carried her to term.
Augustine's colleague Norm Spellman (Joel David Moore) was the father and Grace conceived Kiri before the end of Avatar before somehow giving birth in her Avatar body. However, the more interesting theory is that Kiri is literally the child of Eywa due to some sort of immaculate conception.
Kiri is the inquisitive and intelligent adopted daughter of Jake Sully and Neytiri. Not long after Grace Augustine's death, her dormant avatar was discovered to be pregnant, and Jake and Neytiri adopted the child when she was born.
Jake turns against the RDA after sympathizing with the Na'vi and mating with Neytiri. Jake becomes the sixth Toruk Makto and leads the Na'vi in a battle to drive the RDA off Pandora. After the battle, Jake's consciousness is permanently transferred into his avatar via the Tree of Souls.
The fully grown avatar is much closer in appearance to the long-limbed Na'vi than to a human. Typical adult size ranges from nine to ten feet (2.75 to 3.0m) tall with blue skin, bioluminescent markings and large eyes with golden irises.
However, the RDA returned and was determined to kill Jake due to him being a major war leader of The Resistance, which would greatly destroy Resistance morale and interrupt their plans. After the Omatikaya relocated to High Camp, Quaritch returned as a Recom and nearly killed Jake's children.
Even though he wasn't close with Spider as his brother, Neteyam mostly did it out of obligation to Lo'ak. This unfortunately led to Neteyam's death, as he was killed by an RDA soldier during the Battle of the Three Brothers, trying to help Lo'ak save Spider.
Lo'ak and Kiri are 14 years old in Avatar: The Way of Water, while Tuk is only eight. So, it sounds as if the fourth movie will open with Lo'ak, Tuk, and Kiri at the same ages they are in the third installment, and then they will age six years following the time jump.
