It's been no secret that James Cameron's sequel would make heavy use of pioneering underwater filming technology. This contributed to why Avatar 2 took so long to make, a necessary endeavor since Avatar: The Way of Water introduced a new Na'vi tribe, the Metkayina, who live around and in Pandora's ocean.
Avatar 2, the sequel to the 2009 film Avatar, took 10 years to make because the director, James Cameron, wanted to develop new technology and techniques to improve the film's special effects and to make the underwater scenes more realistic. He also took time to write the script and to plan the production.
The recombinant embryo is grown in-vitro during the flight to Pandora, which takes 3 years ship-time (5 years Earth time due to relativistic effects from the light-speed). In that time it reaches near-adult size, since avatars mature much more rapidly than humans.
To tackle the task of helping create Avatar, it took the Weta Digital super computers processing up to 1.4 million tasks per day to render the movie, which consisted of processing 8 gigabytes of data per second running 24 hours for over a month. Often each of Avatar's frames took several hours to render.

Neteyam te Suli Tsyeyk'itan, or Neteyam, is a major character in the Avatar franchise, serving as one of the main characters in Avatar: The Way of Water. He is the 15-year-old eldest son of Jake Sully and Neytiri, who is also the older brother of Lo'ak, Tuktirey, and Kiri.
According to the report, Avatar 3 was titled Avatar: The Seed Bearer, followed by Avatar: The Tulkun Rider and Avatar: The Quest for Eywa for the subsequent films.
The Walt Disney Co. on Tuesday pushed the release of “Avatar 3” a year, bumping it from December 2024 to December 2025. The timeline is stretched even further for the next planned installments. “Avatar 4” is now slated to hit theaters in December 2029; “Avatar 5” is set to arrive in December 2031.
The fully grown avatar is much closer in appearance to the long-limbed Na'vi than to a human. Typical adult size ranges from nine to ten feet (2.75 to 3.0m) tall with blue skin, bioluminescent markings and large eyes with golden irises.

In Cameron's script she's introduced with the descriptor "in human age she would be 18," but that raises as many questions as it answers. As with the math that leads to Jake being 28, Neytiri's birth in the Earth calendar year 2136 and the film's setting in 2154 add up to make her 18, but that's by Earth standards.
In the film, Pandora is depicted as being located in the Alpha Centauri A system, 4.37 ly from Earth. It is one of the many natural satellites orbiting the gas giant Polyphemus, named for the Polyphemus of Greek mythology.
Pandora, a potato-shaped moon, is coated in a fine (dust-sized) icy material. Even the craters on Pandora are coated in debris, a stark contrast to the crisply-defined craters of other moons, such as Hyperion. Curious grooves and ridges also appear to cross the surface of the small moon.
Her father is not a father, her father is another mother, Eywa, the Great Mother, the sentient life force of Pandora itself that exists in all things there, but is rarely understood. So essentially yes, Kiri was born from Eywa just like Anakin Skywalker was allegedly conceived by the Force itself and its midichlorians.
The Avatar: The High Ground graphic novels provide plenty of backstory and information relevant to the story in Avatar: The Way of Water, including the reveal of who is Spider's mother. Paz Socorro is Spider's mom after a romantic relationship with Quaritch led to her getting pregnant.
Spider was shown to have grown a strong bond with Kiri, with many speculating that there could be a potential future romance between the pair, while his tumultuous relationship with Neytiri came to a dramatic head in the final moments of The Way of Water's climactic battle.
Given that Avatar 3 was filmed at the same time as the sequel, we already know some confirmed returns for the next movie led by Sam Worthington as Jake Sully and Zoe Saldaña as Neytiri. "It's bigger than you can imagine," Worthington told People in January 2024.
Cameron has the rest of “Avatar 4” and the entirety of “Avatar 5” left to shoot. The third movie was originally going to arrive in 2024, but Disney delayed the franchise and scheduled “Avatar 3” for a Dec. 19, 2025, opening.
