The Rise of Skywalker novelization insisted the kiss was not romantic, explaining that it was “a kiss of gratitude, acknowledgment of their connection, celebration that they'd found each other at last”, but when looking at the context and what their connection was like since The Last Jedi, the kiss between Rey and Ben ...
In response, Disney and Abrams have denied that this kiss was romantic, insisting that it was more of a familial relationship and that the kiss was a kiss of gratitude instead of romance.
Rey is Anakin's half sister, and Palpatines relations to Rey through the force. Rey is a genetic experiment/force experiment of immaculate conception orchestrated by palpatine. So Rey is Palpatines daughter or grand daughter, in a metaphorical sense. The same way Anakin is Palpatines son through the force.
Kylo Ren was always obsessed with his grandfather. He didn't learn he was the grandson of Darth Vader until he was a teenager, when a recording from Bail Organa - intended to be a private message for Leia - was shared with the entire galaxy.
With Anakin's mother dead, his padawan Ahsoka estranged and his faith in Obi-Wan and the rest of the Jedi council fading, Padmé was all he had left by the climax of Revenge of the Sith. By eliminating her, Palpatine would be the only one left for Anakin to turn to and therefore would have complete control over him.
Summary. Darth Vader's failure to recognize Leia as his daughter in Star Wars: A New Hope stems from George Lucas's late decision to make Luke and Leia siblings. Leia's Force abilities and her lack of awareness of her true identity also contributed to Vader's inability to sense their familial connection.
Alderaan's princess knew she had been adopted by Bail and Breha Organa after the Clone Wars, but she had no idea who her parents were. That was until Luke Skywalker told her the truth - that he was the son of Darth Vader, and that she was his sister.
Here, Vader employs mind-altering drugs and subliminal suggestion in his sessions with the princess, which make Leia believe that her skin is on fire and her flesh being torn apart, causing the same reaction the real thing would. An altered version was presented in the current Star Wars canon.
