You can create profiles for members in your household, allowing them to have their own personalized Netflix experience. Your account can have up to five individual profiles, and you can set a maturity rating level on each one. Each profile will have its own recommendations based on that profile's ratings and tastes.
Account owners can buy an extra member slot and invite people outside their household to use Netflix. See Plans and Pricing for extra member prices. An extra member will have their own profile, account, and password, but their membership will be paid for by the person who invited them to join.
You can watch on up to four supported devices at a time with a single premium subscription. You can still add two extra members who don't live with you for $7.99 each / month. If you would like to pay more to add members, the maximum number of people who can access a Netflix account at a time would be six.
Can I share my Netflix account with family in a different home?
A Netflix account is meant to be shared by people who live together in one household. People who are not in your household will need to sign up for their own account to watch Netflix. You can manage who uses your account by setting a Netflix Household.
But in May 2023, Netflix cracked down on password sharing, telling U.S. customers that their Netflix account “is for you and the people you live with — your household.” Customers now must pay $7.99 per month to share their account with people outside their household.
A Netflix account is for use by one household. Everyone living in that household can use Netflix wherever they are — at home, on the go, on holiday — and take advantage of new features like Transfer Profile and Manage Access and Devices.
How Netflix detects devices within a Netflix Household. We use information such as IP addresses, device IDs, and account activity to determine whether a device signed into your account is part of your Netflix Household. We do not collect GPS data to try to determine the precise physical location of your devices.
The company is cracking down on customers who share their accounts with people outside a single geographic household, introducing an $8 monthly charge in a long-threatened bid to retain customers and stanch a slowdown in subscription growth.
Second home or frequent travel to the same location
From the main place you watch Netflix, connect to the internet, open the Netflix app or go to Netflix.com on a web browser on your portable device once a month, and stream a TV show or movie for a few seconds to establish a connection.
The number of account users that can stream at the same time will depend on your Netflix plan. You can see the limit for your account, as well as other plan options, on the Change Plan page. Solution: Make sure that no one else is using your account before trying to stream again.
Netflix's preferred solution for this is that the original account owner buys a sub-account for their friend or family member for $7.99/month, allowing them to use the streaming service and watch Netflix without interruption.
Those who subscribe to Netflix's standard or premium plans — which cost $15.50 to $20 per month — will be able to allow another person living outside their household to use their password for an additional $8 per month, a $2 discount from the company's basic plan.
It will enforce the end of password sharing by asking devices to “check in” periodically in your home location around once a month. If you have kids at college, they could check their devices in when they are home, if they can get back every 31 days.
What happens if Netflix catches you sharing your account?
But how will Netflix stop password sharing? This time, the streaming platform is getting money involved. Netflix isn't going to boot the infringing profiles off the main account right away if it catches someone password sharing. Instead, it'll just make the account holder pay up.
How much does sharing a Netflix account cost? Netflix's new rules come with two options for account sharers. If you want to keep another profile outside of your household on your account, you can pony up $7.99 per month for another member.

What happens if you live in two locations on Netflix?
In short, you can still use your account while traveling or while moving between addresses. Netflix will track whether you're streaming from your primary household (i.e. connected from the IP address linked with your account).
Earlier this year, Netflix explained that it will use data such as “IP addresses, device IDs, and account activity from devices signed into the Netflix account” to determine if a Netflix user is part of an account's household.
Extra members cost $7.99/month, and you can add one extra member to Netflix Standard ($15.49/month) or two extra members to Netflix Premium ($19.99/month). Say your extra member is for your parents. It's absolutely fine to create it if they don't download shows and if they don't want to watch Netflix shows separately.
However, what about us college students or people who travel? Netflix has a new verification method to help stop password sharing. Verification will need to take place if the account is accessed from a device not associated with the main account or if it is accessed multiple times outside of the household.
Using Netflix while traveling is a straightforward process. Simply log in as usual, and Netflix will automatically adjust its content library based on your current location, using IP address detection.
