It's too dark and mature to be truly appropriate for the youngest viewers and going in expecting to be as comedic and whimsical as the 1998 version is a set-up for disappointment.
Lilo and Stitch is rated PG, no5 for language, but for mild sci-fi action. Other western countries such as Finland, Norway, and Switzerland gave this film that incidated it's not appropriate for children under 7. Keep in mind, these countries are cultural more liberal than the US, even in 2002.
