Age to me isn't an exact thing with characters, I might have given both answers for Luca, 12 and 13. He's around 12. Giulia around 13, Alberto around 14. Ercole around 18.

Luca is likely to entertain families with children over 5 years. But it's best suited to children aged 8 years and over, and we recommend parental guidance up to 10 years. This is because of some frightening visual imagery, slapstick violence and themes of child abandonment.

Sometime later, while training for the bike race, Luca proposes that he and Alberto join Giulia in school at the end of the summer. This infuriates Alberto, who does not believe sea monsters will be accepted in school or even by Giulia.
While the betrayal is a major turning point in their friendship, Luca turns his back on his friend instead of coming clean to the locals because he wants to stay on land without being seen as a threat. With Alberto revealing that he's a sea creature to Giulia, Luca panicked because he didn't want to do the same.
