Candy was loved by thousands of people who loved his classic antics in Splash (1984) and The Great Outdoors (1988). He was well-known for his roles in Stripes (1981) and Uncle Buck (1989) and he himself never forgot his Canadian background.
Candy became a member of Toronto's branch of The Second City in 1972. He gained wide North American popularity when he became a cast member on the influential Edmonton and later Toronto-based comedy-variety show Second City Television (SCTV).
His Hollywood successes include some comic classics like “Planes, Trains and Automobiles,” “Uncle Buck,” “1941,” “Canadian Bacon” and “Cool Runnings.” As part of an illustrious group of Canadian comics who found Hollywood glory, Candy had a singular charm.
Very engaging, and much more than just a comedy. The transformation of Uncle Buck, played superbly by John Candy, from a single slacker to a responsible adult with better parenting skills than most is quite heart-warming and makes the movie into a great drama.

Was Uncle Buck a successful movie?
Uncle Buck was released in theatres on August 16, 1989, by Universal Pictures and grossed $79.2 million against a $15 million budget. Despite its mixed reviews by critics, the film was considered a cult classic in later years.
The supporting cast, including Macaulay Culkin (Home Alone) also do solid performances. The scene with the golf ball is funny, the principal scene is good, and there are many other humorous scenes. I recommend this to people ages 12 or 13, and up.
His love for Ukrainian food often had the restaurant ship down 10 dozen perogies every Christmas and Thanksgiving, and even on his birthday on October 31st each year. The staff who were shocked by his death in 1994 had nothing but praise for John Candy, who brought Hollywood to Canada.

Actor and comedian John Candy got his big break when he was offered membership in the Second City comedy troupe in the 1970s. In 1984, he co-starred with Tom Hanks in the film Splash and became a movie star. Audiences loved Candy for his roly-poly good nature and wry humor.
Ryan Reynolds is producing the John Candy documentary with George Dewey by way of his Maximum Effort production company, with Colin Hanks also producing on top of directing. Hanks himself has a tangential connection to Candy thanks to his father — a fella by the name of Tom Hanks.
In the mid-nineties Candy filmed the Michael Moore comedy Canadian Bacon (1995) then went to Mexico to film the western spoof Wagons East (1994). It was in Mexico that Candy had a heart attack and passed away in March 1994. Canadian Bacon (1995) was released a year after his death and is his last film.
The film contains a lot of heavy swearing and strong references to sex, including flirting and a tape where sex voices are played for more than ten seconds.
Violence & Scariness. Buck punches a drunk man dressed as a clown. He threatens and implies violence toward his niece's boyfriend and later kidnaps him, puts him in his trunk, and tapes his wrists and ankles with duct tape. In a bedroom at a teen party, a boy makes sexual advances toward a girl with no real consent.
