Violent/Gory Content: It's been reported that Aron's amputation sequence has made moviegoers faint or vomit. It's a three-minute montage, and it is indeed brutal. Aron breaks both bones in his forearm, then gets at gouging through the skin and muscle surrounding them with a painfully dull blade. It's bloody, gory work.
His severed hand and forearm were retrieved from under the boulder by park authorities. According to television presenter Tom Brokaw, it took 13 men, a winch and a hydraulic jack to move the boulder so that Ralston's arm could be removed. His arm was then cremated and the ashes given to Ralston.
We don't need a video for this, Ralston himself has spoken to its accuracy. I believe he said, other than the swimming with the two girls scene (which in real life was a quick chat with the two of them), that watching the movie was like watching a documentary, so pretty damn accurate.

Franco emphasised the levels of desperation Aron had to reach; eating his contact lenses, drinking his urine, stabbing his arm just so that he could feel something in his muscle again, as well as the level of despair it brought to him; longing for his ex-girlfriend, itching to hear his mother's voice, hallucinating ...
On a MPAA rating scale, I think this gets a R solely based on the amputation scene. This movie gets a 3 because although being based on real life, with inspiring messages, I don't think it was executed as well as it could have been.
Despite the plaudits and runtimes of these films, though, there is one film that holds the undisputed crown as the longest film ever made. The 2012 Swedish documentary Logistics runs for 857 hours, which, for those of you keeping track at home, adds up to a runtime of 35 days (and 17 hours).

The logline and description may not sound like much, but 127 Hours delivers one of the most riveting and incredibly emotional experiences I have had in a theatre in some time. I was unsure Boyle and his crew could top their Oscar-winning work in Slumdog Millionaire, but this film improves upon it in every way possible.
The sequence at 74 minutes includes strong, gory detail, as Aron finally decides to chop off his own arm with a relatively blunt penknife. At 15 the BBFC Guidelines state that violence 'should not dwell on the infliction of pain and injury' and 'the strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable'.
Bluejohn Canyon (often mistakenly referred to as "Blue John Canyon") is a slot canyon in eastern Wayne County, Utah, United States. It is on BLM land just south of the boundary of the Horseshoe Canyon Unit of Canyonlands National Park.
In the canyon, Ralston calculated it would take him at least 10 hours to find medical help and he would bleed to death but, using pieces of climbing kit as a tourniquet, he strapped himself up and somehow managed to scale a 65ft cliff to escape the canyon.
