Dove Review I was shocked when I got very close to the end of this film to hear two utterances of God's name in vain. Up until then, this movie was flying along as family approved, at least for ages twelve and above. I later learned it had originally been rated G, but then was switched to PG.
Although there is little in the film to disturb young children, the themes make it best suited to tweens and teens, with parental guidance recommended for the 10-13 age group.
The alcohol, sexual references and behavior of the adults are pretty disgusting. While the story of Annie and Mr Warbucks has a good story line it's ruined by the trash in the rest of the film. Not sure how this earned a PG rating, not something we will be watching in our house.
Profanity: Includes "idiot" and "sucks." Miss Hannigan calls the girls "monsters" and tells them to shut up. Drugs/Alcohol: Miss Hannigan drinks frequently and appears drunk through most of the film. She also worries about Child Protective Services finding her pills in the bathroom medicine cabinet.

What are the bad words in Annie?
There are a few tense scenes where Annie is in danger (she's also rescued from being hit by a car by Daddy Warbucks stand-in Will Stacks, played by Jamie Foxx), a bit of language ("hell," "damn," "sucks," etc.), and a little flirting and kissing.
The movie would be at least a PG-13 -- a rating that did not exist in 1977 -- were it to appear today. Know that it's very much a product of the permissive 1970s; there is casual sex as well as drug use (a brief bit centers on cocaine).
"Annie" is the epitome of a family film in every way. From it's very catchy musical numbers to it's strong heart shown by it's talented cast, this film will make your heart sing even if you are in a bad mood.
Although the film is entertaining for the entire family, we must caution that it contains some mild language. Due to this issue, we award “Annie” (2014) the Dove “Family-Approved” Seal for ages 12+.
It would be fine to cast a male in a female role, and vice versa, as long as the actor plays the charcater as the correct gender and is true to the author's intent. All of the orphans in ANNIE are female.
While not as bloody as a slasher horror movie, there are some violent moments, including the movie's best-known scene in which the novelist is tied to a bed and "hobbled" with a sledgehammer to both of his ankles. A character is murdered, shot in the back with a shotgun.

Molly is the littlest at age 6. The Orphans are gritty girls that are neglected and vulnerable, yet basically honest and lovable. Cast girls that can have "mischievous" fun together, as well as "sibling style" fights.
The film received generally negative reviews; the Rotten Tomatoes consensus say it "smothers its likable cast under clichés, cloying cuteness, and a distasteful materialism". It grossed $133.8 million against a budget of between $65–78 million.
The investigation revealed that her real parents were named David and Margaret Bennett and that they are dead. The Mudges are impostors. Annie and Warbucks declare their love for each other. They realize only Miss Hannigan could have given the Mudges the locket and birth certificate.
Roosevelt has important news for Annie, but Warbucks explains that the FBI finally traced her real parents, David and Margaret Bennett, who had died long ago. She finally realizes that she really is an orphan, but is glad that she is not a Mudge.
Annie finds out that her parents have actually died after Miss Hannigan, her brother, and his girlfriend come up with a plan to be her parents and collect the reward. FDR shows up, and reveals her parents have died.
Strong language is used throughout the film, and there are several scenes depicting sex without frontal nudity. Alcohol and drug abuse (pot) are depicted. There is a scene of coerced sex that verges on rape, and two offscreen deaths, one by suicide.
