--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Redbox, a Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment (NASDAQ: CSSE) company, today announced “Barbie” – the number one movie of 2023 – will be available to rent on Blu-ray Disc® and DVD at Redbox® kiosks nationwide starting Tuesday, October 17.
Barbie, a comedy movie starring Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, and America Ferrera is available to stream now. Watch it on ROW8, Vudu, Apple TV or Prime Video on your Roku device.
"Our customers have been anxiously waiting for 'Barbie' to be available on DVD and Blu-ray, and we're delighted it will soon be in our kiosks nationwide," William J. Rouhana, Jr., chief executive officer and chairman of Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment (owners of Redbox), said last month.
On Demand is now in public beta and will offer many of the same new-release movies and shows that are available at kiosks, the company says. The new service isn't like Netflix or HBO: there are no subscription fees, and customers just pay for each movie or show they rent or buy.

The comedy, which stars Margot Robbie as Barbie, has received positive reviews and is the highest-grossing movie of 2023 so far. The DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD versions will be released on October 17, and they include a digital code for streaming the movie.
Last year, Redbox removed nearly 1,000 of its kiosks amid slumping sales and increasing digital competition, and was looking like it might follow Blockbuster into the graveyard of corporate obsolescence.
