Macchio then won the lead role in The Karate Kid, a film loosely based on a newspaper article about a young boy who had dealt with bullying at school by learning martial arts. The titular character, originally named Danny Webber, was renamed Daniel LaRusso to suit Macchio's Italian-American heritage.
Macchio was born in Huntington, New York. He is the son of Rosalie (née DeSantis) and Ralph George Macchio Sr., who owned a few laundromats and a wastewater disposal company. Ralph has a younger brother named Steven. His father is of half Italian and half Greek descent, and his mother is of Italian ancestry.

Mr. Miyagi was a Japanese-American immigrant whose wife and unborn child died at Manzanar, a Japanese internment camp, while he was away fighting Nazis.
What's even more surprising is that Macchio is actually five months older than actor Thomas Ian Griffith, who played Terry Silver in the third Karate Kid movie, and reprises his role in Cobra Kai. That said, Daniel LaRusso is 53 years old in the show, and Macchio is 61.
“The Karate Kid” undergoes a cultural shift of its own: the 1984 film featured a heavily white cast and was fully in English; in 2010, the film stemmed out from this original plotline to offer bilingual dialogue and more cultural representation behind kung fu.

Why does Mr Miyagi call Daniel "Daniel-san"? In the Japanese language, -san is a polite title that is used after a person's name, the equivalent of Mr., Mrs., or Miss. Daniel could just as easily refer to Mr Miyagi as "Miyagi-san".
Amanda LaRusso (née Steiner) is a main character in Cobra Kai. She is the wife of Daniel LaRusso and the mother of Samantha and Anthony LaRusso. She is a devoted wife and mother, and the voice of reason after Daniel's rivalry with Johnny Lawrence is reignited.
They bond over their mutual amusement over how absurd it seems. Ali, Johnny, and Daniel then tell stories of high school over dinner. During this time, Ali reveals that what actually caused her breakup with Daniel was his jealousy over a college friend of hers (which Daniel mistook for a love affair).
Jackie Chan's 2010 Karate Kid remake was intentionally different from the original, with new characters and a different setting in China, but both versions share similar character dynamics.
Principal photography of the film, which is an international co-production between China, Hong Kong and the United States, took place in Beijing, China, and filming began in July 2009 and ended on October 16. James Horner composed and conducted the film's score.
Miyagi was 86 years old, when he died in 2011. In 1984, the year the first Karate Kid was filmed, his character would have been around 59 years old. The actor, Pat Morita, who played Mr. Miyagi was 52 years old in 1984.
Since Sam is only 17 years old by Cobra Kai season 5, Mary was 25 years old when production took place, which made her eight years older. Now that she has turned 27 ahead of season 6, Mary Mouser is a full decade older than Samantha LaRusso.
Miyagi fought against the Japanese Empire in the Second World War and while he was doing that his wife Mrs. Miyagi, gave birth to a son inside an internment camp and got sick and they didn't send any doctor to her so she and the son both died. Mr. Miyagi still won a medal of honour for being a war hero.
Mr. Miyagi was not without his regrets, however. The loss of his wife and child, while he was in the European theater of World War II, haunted him for decades. He never remarried, living a solitary life afterward.
