Picking up after the events of Hawkeye, Echo finds Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) at a crossroads. She discovered that her adoptive uncle Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) was responsible for the death of her father, and promptly shot him in the face.
Maya Lopez is a deaf member of the Choctaw tribe who moved out of her hometown as a child with her father William Lopez, and became the protegée of Wilson Fisk, growing up under his care. Losing her father due to Ronin's hunt for criminals, Lopez became the Tracksuit Mafia's commander, vowing revenge on Ronin.
Fisk was once known as “Uncle” to Maya, who looked up to him after relocating to New York City with her father as a child. Fisk was long ago crowned Kingpin by the NYC criminal underworld.
At age nine, Maya's gangster father works with his partner in crime, Wilson Fisk, AKA Kingpin, who eventually kills him. Fisk becomes her guardian. Hoping to one day use her talents, Fisk subtly manipulates her into learning fighting skills as well as the performance arts, which she excels in both.
Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin, adopted Maya Lopez after he was responsible for her father's death. He sent her to good schools and involved her in his business. He saw her as a useful person for his plans.
Though Maya has every reason to hate Fisk, given how he killed her father and threatened to kill the rest of her family, Maya defeats Fisk with a surprising method.
They escape, and she tries to follow them to get answers. In the penultimate episode of Hawkeye, Maya and the Ronin fight at the auto shop where her father was killed, and as he almost defeats her, Clint takes off the mask to reveal that he's her father's killer.
The only real standout being Vincent D'Onofrio's excellent portrayal of Kingpin, but even that is tarnished by the writing and a limp wiltering flower of an ending. Echo also suffered from bad editing with the pacing and storyline feeling like they were all over the place.
By the end of Echo, Maya uses her new powers to help Kingpin return to his traumatic past—the moment where he killed his abusive father as he was hurting his mother—and clear his mind. It leads Kingpin to retreat from one of his many moments of bloodlust, perhaps, at least briefly, a changed man? Probably not.
While it's debatable how much of Wilson Fisk's behavior is due to childhood trauma versus anything like autism, symptoms such as his difficulty with eye contact, preference for precise routine, and stilted speech patterns have led critics to interpret him as an autistic character.
William Lopez was a commander of the Tracksuit Mafia, the brother of Henry Lopez and the father of Maya Lopez. When Taloa Lopez died, William was disowned by his family and moved to New York. He was then murdered by Ronin acting on a tip from Kingpin.
Maya Lopez is the adopted daughter of the supervillain Kingpin. She is also a supporting character of the superhero Matt Murdock / Daredevil. The character has been a member of the Avengers and the New Avengers at various points in her history.
Her grandma Chula (Tantoo Cardinal) blamed this calamity on Echo's criminal dad (Zahn McClarnon), who in Hawkeye was slain by the Avenger, thus nominally pitting Echo against him.
In May 2022, Marvel confirmed Jacobs's casting and announced that Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Cody Lightning, and Graham Greene would also star in the series, with Zahn McClarnon reprising his role as Echo's father William Lopez from Hawkeye.

Now, both Daredevil and Kingpin appear in Echo. All these cameos have made Echo and the rest of the MCU's recent slate of television feel less an extension of its movie empire than a constant reminder of an old Netflix show.
Biscuits is the cousin of Maya Lopez and a member of the Choctaw tribe who was ecstatic when Lopez returned to Tamaha. He then agreed to help her on a mission, ruining Chula Battiest's truck in the process.
Most of Fisk's bulk is actually muscle, not fat; his enormous size is comparable to that of a sumo wrestler. Wilson Fisk is learned in several types of hand-to-hand combat, and uses his enormous bulk as a means of defense as much as attack.
Echo concludes with a showdown between Maya and her surrogate father, Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio), and instead of avenging her biological father's (Zahn McClarnon) murder, she used her powers to access the treacherous crime lord's mind in hopes of healing the childhood trauma that made him who he is today ...
However, there was no one to whom Narcissus would return affection. Echo was a nymph who was destined a fate that she could only repeat the sounds and last words of others. One day she spotted and fell in love with Narcissus. She followed him through the woods but could not speak without repeating his words.
After a heated argument before the two, her father was murder on the Kingpin's orders. As she watched her father slowly die, he reached out to Maya & left a bloody hand print on her face. Maya was then taken in by none other than her father's killer, the Kingpin.
