This is a big change for Spider-Man canon as, aside from 2012's Ultimate Spider-Man series, Harry Osborn has never been Venom before. This caused some mixed reactions from Spider-Man fans when it was first revealed, but seems to have been more positively received now that the game is out.

Why did Harry turn into Venom?
Hog the symbiote to himself and when he finally gets it off declares "We need to destroy it" with no actual plan ahead for Harry. The only reason he turned into Venom was because Harry was an angry at Spider-Man for denying the lifesaving medicine.

Following his terminal cancer diagnosis, Brock decided to sell the Venom symbiote on the black market and donate the proceeds to charitable causes as a way to atone for his various crimes.
