The two heroes have raced several times since then, in the comics, cartoons and movies. As a general rule, the comics claim that The Flash is the faster hero, with Barry Allen, Wally West and even an octogenarian Jay Garrick having outrun Superman over the years.
Jay Garrick has been able to run 20 times faster than the speed of sound, and can possibly run up to the speed of light. When not tapping into the Speed Force, he can run at the speed of sound (770 MPH).
While not every Flash could beat Superman in a no-holds-barred race, the main Flashes — Barry Allen and Wally West — have both beaten Superman in several contests of speed. The Speed Force is a potent power source, allowing them to break the laws of physics in ways that Superman just can't.
Garrick became one of the elder statesmen of the DC Universe, a member of the Justice Society, and an all around role model. His years of experience made him a great hero, but speed wise, Jay is the slowest Flash. He can still pull off a lot of the cool Flash tricks, but in a foot race, he's coming up last.
Although many readers know Barry Allen as the Scarlet Speedster, the first hero to bear the moniker of the Flash was Jay Garrick during the Golden Age of DC Comics. Barry and his successors, such as Wally West and Bart Allen, are all immensely faster than Garrick.
In the original Golden Age comics, Jay Garrick gained his speed-enhancing abilities by inhaling hard water vapor during a lab experiment. This accident granted him superhuman speed and agility, allowing him to become the Flash and fight crime. Jay Garrick has made numerous appearances in other media.
During the latter half of Season 6 and the first half of Season 7, the speedforce dies due to the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths. During this period of time all speedsters in the CW who were connected to the speed force (which included Jay) lost access to their speed.
We know it's controversial not putting Barry in the number two slot. But we are taking Wally West's word for it and saying that Bart Allen is the second-fastest Flash.
Wally West is the Fastest Flash. He has been confirmed to be the fastest being in the entire DC Multiverse. While most to all speedsters can make a connection and draw upon this force, Wally "mainlines" power from the Speed Force itself and cannot be cut off from the source.
While kryptonite is Superman's greatest weakness, he's susceptible to other forms of energy and threats. This makes Billy Batson — aka Shazam, the World's Mightiest Mortal — one of Superman's greatest opponents. Batson can transform himself into an incredibly powerful adult body when he says the magic word "Shazam."
Superman can run and think fast, he just doesn't come close to The Flash's top speed. In all instances of racing The Flash, Superman has never bested him, and throughout the entire history of DC comics, these two heroes have drawn twice. The Flash has bested Superman on two occasions so far.
Decelerated Aging: Jay ages at a much slower rate than any normal human, due to the Speed Force halting his cells from degrading over time. Jay is nearly 100 years old if not older, as he was shown to already be an adult in the year 1941.
High-Level Intellect - Jay is a very intelligent man, having been an, as he calls it, "amateur scientist" at one point and invented a serum which first granted him his superspeed during his experiements.
As the fastest of the two speedsters, the Black Flash primarily focuses its attention on Impulse until the latter sacrifices himself to destroy the demonic speedster, which goes on to inspire Garrick to come out of retirement and form the Teen Titans.
In the comics, Godspeed is a few notches faster than Barry Allen as shown in the above photo where he struggled to keep up with him. The only way Barry was able to stop the villainous speedster was to "short-circuit" both their connections to the Speed Force, which temporarily cuts off their super speed.
The Flash is faster - and it ain't even close. Quicksilver's top speed is Mach 10 - a little slower than 8000 miles per hour. This makes him one of the fastest beings in the Marvel universe, with only the likes of Marvel's heaviest hitters (Sentry, Blue Marvel, etc.) being able to eclipse Pietro in terms of raw speed.
Wishing to steal Jay's speed as a cure from the deadly side-effects of the Velocity serums he overdosed on, Zoom defeated Jay in a titanic confrontation but was unable to devise a way to take Jay's speed and instead resorted to imprisoning him on his own Earth within his base of operations.
26 episode “The Reverse-Flash Returns” (a title that has now taken on a poetic double meaning) only to discover that “Jay Garrick” didn't exist on our Earth, and instead, Jay's doppelganger was a man named Hunter Zolomon — the alter ego of Zoom in DC Comics canon.
He can also outrun other speedsters, such as Sonic and Quicksilver. It is said that The Flash can run 13 trillion times faster than the speed of light, which would mean that he can travel up to 1,750,000,000,000,000,000 miles per second. The Flash gets his incredible speed and abilities from The Speed Force.
An exchange in “Impulsive Excessive Disorder” expanded on Jay's post-Crisis history by revealing that he time-traveled back to World War II and fought Nazis.
