In modern literature (such as Marvel Comics) it has become popular to portray Loki as the adopted son of Odin. This however has no basis in Norse mythology, where Loki is portrayed as the blood brother of Odin.
Laufey was the king of the Frost Giants of Jotunheim, and the biological father of Loki. He was betrayed and killed by his own son while attempting to start a second war between Jotunheim and Asgard by murdering the Asgardian King Odin.
Some historians have speculated that Loki was in fact a separate deity that was later integrated into the main Norse religion, while others have suggested that Loki may have been a separate aspect or disguise for Odin. This is derived from the fact that Loki is often described as the "blood-brother" of Odin.
Loki is the son of Fárbauti (a jötunn) and Laufey (mentioned as a goddess), and the brother of Helblindi and Býleistr. Loki is married to Sigyn and they have two sons, Narfi or Nari and Váli. By the jötunn Angrboða, Loki is the father of Hel, the wolf Fenrir, and the world serpent Jörmungandr.
Ages ago, Odin fought and defeated Laufey and the Frost Giants of Jotunheim in a great war. Abandoned and left for dead as a baby due to his diminutive size, Odin took Loki, son of Laufey, to Asgard to raise him as his son and a prince in order to one day unite the Frost Giants and the Asgards in peace.

Why does Loki hate Odin?
Loki has changed role and aspect many times, but he is still mostly remembered as Thor's antithesis, his resentful adoptive brother who grew up to hate the God of Thunder. One of the reasons for Loki's bitterness is that Odin always favored his "real" son, Thor, during their childhood.
The spell was permanent, making it so Loki only reverted to having blue skin when touching a Frost Giant or one of their artifacts. Since Loki's appearance was a spell, not just an illusion, it could not be broken or reversed by Odin's death.
By saving and organizing every existing timeline, Loki has become the God of Time — a higher being who keeps the past, present, and future of every universe from being erased by outside forces. However, Loki has also become the God of Stories, as he has placed everybody's personal journey above his own.
Hela Odinsdottir was the ruler of Hel, the daughter of Odin Borson, the older half-sister of Thor Odinson, and the adoptive older sister of Loki Laufeyson. She was the Asgardian Goddess of Death.
Odin Borson is the King of Asgard, land of the Norse gods of myth. As a supreme warrior and slayer of the ice giants, he is a force to behold. Also known as the All-Father, King Odin raised a son named Thor with whom he defends their godly realm against threats planetary, cosmic, and sometimes even familial.
However, as fond as the mythological Odin is of his son Thor (who he had with Jörð , not with his wife Frigg), his favorite child is generally understood to be Baldr, who is Frigg's son.
In his exile, Odin apparently thought over all the acts he had done and likely felt remorse over them, as he showed no hostility towards Loki and even noted Frigga would be proud of him. He also admitted that he truly loved both of his sons and expressed remorse for failing to stop Ragnarök.
The chaos the deities face, such as the destabilization of the world-tree and Fenrir's escape, leads to Loki freeing himself. During the battle, Loki eventually begins to fight Heimdall, who guards the entrance to Asgard. The two ultimately engage in a battle to the death, killing each other during the conflict.
Odin and Loki are blood brothers, but the origin of this seems to be unclear in Norse Mythology. One version says that Odin killed Loki's giant father and adopted him. Another version states that Loki and Odin were both around at the beginning of time and we're good friends.
At the end of Thor, Loki knows the truth, and Frigga knows that Loki knows, but at no point does Thor find out the whole truth. In The Avengers, Thor says "He is adopted," so he must have learned the truth sometime between the events depicted onscreen.
Is Loki more powerful than Thor? Loki isn't more powerful than Thor ,that's why he seeks mjolnir. I will say he is more powerful without bringing mjolnir to the question. Although he is more versatile having powers Thor doesn't,Thor is far stronger physically though and mjolnir can dispel magic spells.
Loki is considered a trickster god, known for being neither fully good nor evil since his main aim was always to create chaos. Despite his father being a giant, he is still counted a member of the Aesir—a tribe of deities including Odin, Frigg, Tyr, and Thor.
Then, we have the Time Stone, represented by, you guessed it, the newly all-powerful, time-traveling Loki who now sits at a throne at the center of the multiverse holding all timelines together with his very green magic.
Loki was born a Frost Giant and abandoned as an infant by his father Laufey, only to be found by Odin during an invasion of the realm of the Frost Giants in Jotunheim. Odin used magic to change Loki to look like an Asgardian and raised him as a son alongside Odin's biological son, Thor.
Frigga never taught Thor magic because he inherited his father's incredible strength so he didn't need magic to defend himself. Thor relies on brute strength whereas Loki relies on tricks and mental manipulations to defeat his foes.
In both the comics and Norse mythology, Loki had been portrayed as gender-fluid. In Norse mythology, Loki was first recognized as a “shapeshifter” when Loki lived as a handmaiden for eight years. Loki's first mention as being gender-fluid in the Marvel comics was when he stole the female form of Sif.
Here, holding on to all of the timelines, he became a kind of tree god, physically representing the Norse tree of life, Yggdrasil. It was a poignant and painful ending for Loki, who now seems to be sentenced to being alone for eternity as he watches over the timelines.
Loki birthed Sleipnir after he transformed into a mare and mated with the master builder's stallion, Svaðilfari, to prevent the master builder from completing his fortifications around Asgard, the realm of the Æsir gods.
Why did Loki turn into a woman? In the comics, Loki is reborn as a woman, known simply as Lady Loki, after the events of Ragnarok in Asgard, but even that wasn't too innocent: When Thor and his fellow Asgardians are to be reborn in new bodies on Earth, Loki actually stole the body intended to be for Sif.
