Mantis was born from an unnamed home world and descended from an empathic race of insectoids that would eventually reach to a humanoid state. Her father was Ego, the living planet, who found her in a larvae state.
These children were the offspring of the Celestial Ego and the older, paternal half-siblings of Peter Quill and Mantis. They were abducted by Yondu Udonta and given to their father. However, they were all killed by Ego after learning they did not inherit the Celestial gene.
After the funeral, Mantis privately revealed to Drax that Ego was her biological father, but that she did not want him to tell the others, especially Peter Quill.
Star-Lord and Mantis are siblings because they were both fathered by Ego. Star-Lord and Mantis have different mothers, but they both had romantic relationships with Ego in the past. This was the result of Ego's Expansion plan, which was his mission to terraform planets across the galaxy so they were controlled by him.
