Maze Runner: The Death Cure is the final in the Original books based on the 2011 novel The Death Cure written by James Dashner. The film was directed by Wes Ball from a screenplay by T.S. Nowlin, and distributed by 20th Century Fox.
Despite the underperformance of the final film, Disney still managed to see the worth in the IP. This led to the confirmation that Maze Runner 4 is in development. The announcement that new Maze Runner movies were in development came in April 2019 as part of Disney's presentation at CinemaCon.
How does the Maze Runner series end? Both the book series and movie series end the same way: with Thomas, Minho, Brenda, Jorge, and a bunch of other Immunes escaping WICKED to live out their lives in a Safe Haven.
The Maze Runner movie series has ended, but James Dashner has released prequels that would make future movies unlikely. The fourth and fifth Dashner novels focus on new characters and take place before the events of the Maze.

The emotional intensity is definitely doubled up in the movie, establishing Teresa as a Thomas' one true love interest. Unlike Dashner's original story, the possibility of him dating Brenda is eliminated, and the audiences also get enough time to process the death of a character introduced right from the first movie.
That's why they've been put through the Maze and the Scorch trials. The disease works by eating away areas of the brain. It's hoped that by monitoring the Munies in various stress and decision-making scenarios, scientists can map out a blueprint of their minds and figure out a way to cure those infected.
Newt reveals that the reason WCKD put him in the Maze was because they wanted to tell the difference between immunes like Thomas and people like himself. Thomas tells Newt that he can cure him.

Fleeing the building, the Immunes escape through the Flat Trans that leads to a lush paradise. Minho becomes the technical leader, Brenda and Thomas start a relationship and the Immunes resolve to wait until everyone is dead so they can return to the old world. The epilogue is narrated by Paige.
