Because of her meritorious service, the emperor pardoned her crime of deceiving the monarch and thought that she was capable of serving in the court. However, Hua Mulan refused because she had an old father to take care of and asked the emperor to allow him to return to his hometown to compensate and honor his parents.
Because her father is old and sick, Mulan fears that if he fulfills his military service, his life will be ended. Thus, she is determined to take his place. Being that her father had taught her martial arts ever since she was a young girl, she is confident that she will be able to perform well on the battlefield.

Her desire to be there for herself drives her training and determination as she is no longer fighting only for others but also for herself. Mulan shows us that while it can be easier at times to think about the happiness of others rather than your own, it rarely stops there.
Five moral values conveyed by the main character are Honesty, Courage, Loyalty and dependability, Unselfishness and sensitivity, and kindness and friendliness .
