In the 2016 movie Blade Runner 2049, Ryan Gosling plays the replicant K (short for his serial number KD 6-3.7) in a dystopian future in Los Angeles. Replicants are bioengineered humanoids who serve humans, despite having superior strength and intelligence.
However, no matter how much it made sense to him, K eventually finds out that he is not human. The memories in his mind are real, but they are not his. They belong to Deckard's daughter, Ana Stelline, a memory designer for the Wallace Corporation who implanted her memories in K during.
Both Blade Runner and 2049 refused to confirm or deny, and while the evidence for Deckard being a replicant was always compelling, the ambiguity - and the sense even he wasn't sure - is what made the query so involving.
1982's Blade Runner introduced fans to the now-iconic sci-fi universe, where sentient artificial humans known as Replicants are created for slave labor on off-world colonies, and Blade Runners are police officers assigned to kill Replicants, should they step out of line.

Did K think he was the child?
Because of this memory, K became convinced that he was Rachael and Deckard's child, but was eventually informed by Freysa that he was not and that the child was female. With this revelation, K soon determined that Stelline was the child. K took Deckard to Stelline's lab as she interacted with a snowfall hologram.

K started the movie believing he was made, with implanted memories. He then thought he was born, and that the memories were real. In fact, as revealed by the end of the movie, he was made and the memories were implants – but they were real, implanted memories from the actual daughter of Deckard and Rachael.
The big twist in the final act of the movie is that K isn't the son of Deckard and Rachael at all, but just another cog in the machine that might lead to the child's discovery.
“Blade Runner 2049” is one of the most important movies of this century as it explores significant themes in modern society, particularly loneliness. The main character's journey in the movie allows us to delve into the forces that shape our current world, and ultimately come to a deeper understanding of these issues.
In a 2023 interview, Ford stated that he "always knew" that Deckard was a replicant, but wanted to "push back against it", adding that a replicant (or at least, Deckard) would want to believe that they are human. Ridley Scott stated in several interviews that he considers Deckard to be a replicant.
Ridley Scott says he's a replicant, Harrison Ford says he isn't, and countless others don't know where to begin, but there is one controversial answer that doesn't come up as frequently: the answer doesn't matter. During the final fight with K, after subduing him, she smugly kissed him and retorted "I am the best one!", as if trying to prove her superiority over not just K, but all other replicants, further hinting at her deep-seated insecurities that she kept well-hidden.
Deckard's eyes glow briefly in one scene, which was used in the film to subtly suggest his replicant identity. However, Ford denies this was an intentional effect and he may have caught some of the light intended to fall on Sean Young's eyes.
Despite not doing as well at the box office as expected, earning $267.7 million worldwide, the neo-noir cyberpunk film has since gained a massive fan base due to its masterful direction, acting, and cinematography all coming together, creating a film that defines everything that makes the sci-fi genre so special.
Ana Stelline (Carla Juri), who is Deckard and Rachael's daughter but has no idea of this and now works as the world's best memory fabricator. We don't know if she planted that memory in only K's brain or in the brains of hundreds of replicants, hoping one of them would follow this message in a bottle. Maybe others did.
In Blade Runner 2049, K is on a journey to discover if he has a soul like his human masters. He wants to be more than just a biological machine created to serve. K sees being born as a way to be more remarkable than other replicants. However, what he didn't realize is that he had a soul all along.
Wallace himself wanted to discover the secret to reproduction in replicants in order to support interstellar colonization, and to this end he sent Luv, now his assistant, to steal Rachael's remains from the LAPD headquarters and follow K to find Rachael's child.
When the Replicant Registration database leaked to the public, human supremacists began hunting and killing every replicant on Earth. This culminated with the Blackout in May 2022, causing the destruction of the planet's digital technology and economic collapse. Common citizens then gravitated toward analog technology.
Deckard was a human in the 2019 (the 1982 film) and through a Herculean effort survived his encounter with Batty and fled Los Angeles with Rachael at some point after Batty's death. Deckard was a replicant and fled with Rachael, another replicant, after Batty's death.
In January 2018, Scott stated that he had "another [story] ready to evolve and be developed, [that] there is certainly one to be done for sure", referring to a third Blade Runner film. In late 2022, Amazon announced a Blade Runner 2049 sequel series would be produced.
