Paramount Pictures President and CEO Brian Robbins said that Smile was originally slated for a streaming-only release on Paramount+, but the studio eventually decided to release the film theatrically because of strong results from test screenings.

Very scary horror. This is an extremely scary, graphic horror movie that should not be taken lightly. I have seen my fair share of horror movies over the years but this one definitely has a different feel to it. It is chilling, unnerving, and very difficult to watch sometimes.

I'm glad I caught Smile in the theater and that the sound was cranked, but with a decent sound system and with no distractions, it would be a good at home watch too. It's no instant horror classic, and probably won't become a cult one either, but it's still good enough to add to a horror fan's list to watch.
NO, it is not as scary as "Smile" or recent movie "the barbarian" and it's not as scary as"IT" in my opinion. It's very light jumps-scares and the gore/blood is VERY minimal. Finally, wanted to throw in I took my best friend who HATES horror movies and he said it was the funniest thing he has ever seen.
The film sustains a strong sense of foreboding and threat throughout, with central themes of trauma and death. There are frequent jump scares and some very strong violence.
