Fans of Daijin think that he simply liked the protagonist and wanted to spend time with her. It's likely that Daijin just doesn't know or care about what's just in terms of human morality because he's a supernatural being. He might not see his actions as all that different from a typical cat annoying its owner.

Souta is trapped in the Ever-After, which is essentially the realm of souls where the mysterious doors lead to, and the only door that Suzume can travel through as a living person is the one that she crossed as a kid, when she got lost while desperately looking for her mother.
“Daijin is a cat that can speak human language. It is also nicknamed so by locals for its appearance similar to an ancient minister. Daijin is one of the two Keystones in the movie.
Interestingly, when the first keystone, a white cat, turns Souta into a chair, Suzume's quest becomes more complicated. While her love for Souta grows as she realizes how selfless he is, their romance feels quite run-of-the-mill.
In the scene at the end when teenage Suzume gives her younger self the chair, there's a very cathartic moment where she tells herself, “One day you're going to grow up, you're going to fall in love with people and you're going to fall in love with yourself.”
