Tauriel and Kili – The Hobbit Trilogy The original character Tauriel finds herself in a love triangle with both the Elf prince Legolas and the Dwarf Kili pining for her affection. She remains uninterested in Legolas, but begins to feel a bond to Kili as the two speak in the dungeons of Mirkwood.
In fact, there are no female hobbits in The Hobbit. Romantic love does not exist, although friendship, affection, and respect are important values enacted among the male characters.
However, Tauriel also has a "softer side", and her character arc includes a love story. Though she and Legolas first met as children, and their relationship is significant, her romantic arc is not with him, as she develops a mutual attraction to the dwarf Kíli.
Tauriel admits her love for Kili in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Tauriel leaves Thranduil and accompanies Legolas and Bilbo to Ravenhill in order to warn Thorin, Dwalin, Fili, and Kíli of an upcoming attack led by Bolg. She successfully finds Kíli and the two battle against Bolg together.
But other than being a connection to the Lord of the Rings films, Legolas spends his entire journey chasing after Tauriel and demanding her to follow him wherever he goes, despite the fact that she is clearly in love with the dwarf Kili.

Where Thorin and Bilbo in love?

As others have said, it just means "strange." There are a few other words that are now slang/slur for "homosexual" in the Hobbit and LoTR as well.
