Disney has announced a return to the world of Woody and Buzz in Toy Story 5. Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed there would a new Toy Story sequel coming from Pixar during the 2023 year-end earnings call. It will be the sixth feature-length Toy Story movie following 2022's Lightyear and 2019's Toy Story 4.
He broke the news on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” confirming Iger's sequel announcement in February. “Bob Iger, head of Disney, said it was on,” Allen said during Tuesday's episode. “He actually said it was going to happen. They have reached out to Tom and I to reprise the roles.
Andy will return to the Toy Story franchise as a grown-up
According to a video posted by The DisInsider, Woody and Buzz's original owner will be returning to the series as an adult. And the family he's created during his time away from the toys will play an integral role in the film.
Toy Story 3 came out a decade-and-a-half later in June 2010, and Toy Story 4 released in June 2019. Assuming that Toy Story 5 follows the same development schedule as its predecessors, we won't see it until anywhere between 2026 and 2028. That'll be about seven to nine years from the last film.
