“Are we ever too old to read Harry Potter?” The short answer is no. According to a survey by Statista in April 2023, 43% of GenZers identify as avid Harry Potter fans. According to the Harvard Business Review, reading fiction also causes the reader to gain more empathy and social insight.
They transport us to different worlds, spark our imaginations, and allow us to experience something beyond our everyday lives. In conclusion, my journey through the Harry Potter series was immensely enjoyable, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone, even if you've already watched the movies.

Harry Potter books can be read by all ages but the writing style grows more adult later in the series so the first book reads like a children's adventure story with kindly father figure & lots of cake whereas by the final book the story is gritty & dark, much more adult.
personally, I consider the Harry Potter franchise as a kid's movie since the first three movies were more child-friendly and were more targeted to kids under the age of 10. while older kids could be also part of the main audience but more towards their teen years instead.
But here's the thing, Harry Potter is not easy. There are lots of characters, difficult names, weird accents, complicated plots, and lots of big vocabulary words.
1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. The first book in the series requires a reading level of 880L, which makes it an appropriate read for most 2nd and 3rd graders. With a total of 223 pages and an acceptable story complexity, it should not be too challenging.
So Hogwarts has 7 years presumably from ages 11 - 18. But in Death Hallows Harry just turns 18 and should be going to his final year of Hogwarts, while Ron & Hermione have already turned 18 seemingly during their 6th year at Hogwarts.
The later, the better. If you manage to put off your child reading the Harry Potter Series till age 9 or 10, that's good, and if you manage to put it off till 11, that's great. Given the popularity of the series, and peer pressure to read the book, it's impossible to hold off the books after that.
