Thomas and Martha Wayne were, by all accounts, good people. They taught their son well, and they treated their butler, Alfred Pennyworth, with impeccable kindness. However, this isn't true across the DC multiverse, and there are timelines where the Waynes were downright evil people.
There are times when he's been too hard on his kids, and there have been times where he's failed them. But he's also empowered them, shown them love, and made them into the best versions of themselves. Batman is not the perfect father, but he's learning and getting better every day.

From my memory, Thomas Wayne has usually been seen as a well-meaning spirit towards Gotham and its citizens, and a good father for Bruce. He has been portrayed as a doctor, businessman, philanthropist, husband and concerned citizen.

One of the mysteries in director Todd Phillips' Joker is whether Arthur Fleck really is the son of Thomas Wayne as his mother Penny Fleck claimed. Both Wayne himself and Alfred Pennyworth said it was untrue and that Penny was delusional, hence her eventual stay in Arkham Asylum.
