In the first instance, Victor's monstrous creation is a vegetarian. As Adams (1990) has evidenced, the creature adopts an explicitly vegetarian diet and functions as an embodiment of the vegetarian ideals being published by Shelley's contemporaries.
Not a vegetarian by necessity (he does try meat at least once without any immediate consequences), Frankenstein's monster claims that he is a vegetarian by choice: “I do not destroy the lamb and the kid, to glut my appetite; acorns and berries afford me sufficient nourishment” (p. 103).
Yet several generations later Mary Shelley's monster, having resisted his creator's attempts to eliminate him in the book, is able to reproduce himself with the variety and fertility that Frankenstein had feared.

Walton watches him until he was “borne away by the waves and lost in darkness and distance.” Also, Walton's expedition is a total failure.
The monster wants companionship and love but is rejected at every turn, even by his maker. The monster carries out his dark promises, and Victor concludes his days in the same solitude he condemned his creation to, fueled like the monster by the desire for revenge.
