The Karate Kid is a semi-autobiographical story based on the life of its screenwriter, Robert Mark Kamen. At age 17, after the 1964 New York World's Fair, Kamen was beaten up by a gang of bullies. He thus began to study martial arts in order to defend himself.
Nariyoshi Miyagi, commonly known as Mr. Miyagi, is a fictional character in the four original films of the Karate Kid franchise, portrayed by Pat Morita. A wise karate master, he mentors Daniel LaRusso in the first three films (1984-1989) and Julie Pierce in The Next Karate Kid (1994).
“Kumite” is one-on-one sparring between Karate practitioners. “Cobra Kai” is a dojo that practices “Miyagi-Do”, a made-up Karate from Okinawa. But, the characters use techniques from Tang Soo Do, Shotokan, and Kyokushin.
Cobra Kai takes plenty of artistic liberties with its portrayals of martial arts training (it's a show after all – if a sensei really trained his teenagers in a junkyard, their parents would have conniptions). Nevertheless, as shocking as it sounds, there really was a Cobra Kai. And it didn't preach “Strike Hard.
How could the Crane Kick in Karate Kid be illegal if there are multiple kicks to the head in the whole tournament (even at least one winning kick from Johnny)? The Crane Kick was 100% legal within the rules of the All-Valley Tournament.

Is the crane kick real?
The crane kick is a fictionalized version of the Mae tobi geri (Japanese: 前飛蹴). The move was created by Daryll Vidal for the classic film The Karate Kid (1984). The move is taught by the character Mr. Miyagi to Daniel LaRusso and eventually used in the final scene with his arch rival Johnny Lawrence.
Apart from four jiu-jitsu lessons when I was 10, I had no martial arts experience. Before filming, I was trained in Okinawan Gōjū-ryū karate by Pat E Johnson, who coordinated the fight scenes and played the head referee in the tournament at the end of the film.
Tommy, one of the original members of Cobra Kai, died in season 2 — shortly before the death of actor Rob Garrison, who played him, in 2019. In 1984's The Karate Kid, Tommy was one of Johnny Lawrence's (William Zabka) loyal Cobra Kai gang - along with Bobby (Ron Thomas), Jimmy (Tony O'Dell), and Dutch (Chad McQueen).
While not seen directly, Silver is shown to have had a massive influence, as his, Kreese's, and Barnes's ruthless and unethical actions during the 1985 All-Valley Tournament led to the tournament committee issuing a lifetime ban on Cobra Kai from participating in the All-Valley.
Zabka played Johnny Lawrence, the main antagonist to the title character and protagonist played by Ralph Macchio. Zabka had no training in karate at the time but was an accomplished wrestler. Participating in the film inspired Zabka to learn the martial art of Tang Soo Do and he later earned a second–degree green belt.
Though actors like Ralph Macchio and William Zabka have their Karate Kid days on their resumes, they haven't had the kind of formal training that would make them karate masters. The same is true for the younger cast members in Corba Kai.
Before filming The Karate Kid, Pat Morita was not a martial arts master. He did not have any experience in karate prior to making the films. However, that does not mean he and the rest of the cast were not placed under a training program.
Pat Morita died of kidney failure, following a urinary tract and gallbladder bacterial infection, on November 24, 2005, at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the age of 73. Throughout his life, Morita had battled alcoholism. He was cremated at Palm Green Valley Mortuary and Cemetery in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Miyagi fought against the Japanese Empire in the Second World War and while he was doing that his wife Mrs. Miyagi, gave birth to a son inside an internment camp and got sick and they didn't send any doctor to her so she and the son both died. Mr. Miyagi still won a medal of honour for being a war hero.
This series follows a "The Karate Kid" franchise, but should be prepared for it because there's a lot more mature and darker than the movies. Rated TV-14 for strong martial arts violence and language throughout, some suggestive content, alcohol/smoking and some drugs use, and thematic material.
Terry Silver tormented Daniel LaRusso in The Karate Kid Part III. The multimillionaire insanely devoted his time and money to hounding the teenage Daniel, and he manipulated LaRusso into breaking with his mentor, Mr. Miyagi (Noriyuki "Pat" Morita), and joining Cobra Kai.
Of course, there can only be one Cobra Kai dojo in the valley and this is just a fictional series. In the real world, there appear to be some Cobra Kai dojos duking it out in the U.S. Trademark Office (“USPTO”).
Rob Garrison, best known for playing Tommy in both “The Karate Kid” and recent series “Cobra Kai,” died Friday morning. He was 59. Garrison's character is known for his “Karate Kid” line, “Get him a body bag!”
His Karate Kid character Tommy is remembered for delivering the line "Get him a body bag, yeah!" during the closing moments of the climactic fight between Ralph Macchio's Daniel LaRusso and Zabka's Johnny Lawrence in the original Karate Kid film.
Does Ralph Macchio, the actor from The Karate Kid, actually have any karate training in real life? Not by a long shot; though it should be noted that neither were cast to be great martial artists, and instead were hired to be amazing actors.
