Fensky and Hoffman plan to kill Mike but Mike is not actually drunk. Mike shoots Fensky using the revolver he had hidden in the back seat when he broke into the car earlier. Hoffman attempts to draw his service pistol, but Mike kills him. Fensky wounds Mike in the left shoulder, and Mike shoots Fensky in the throat.
After Matt's unfortunate death, Mike didn't know what to do, so he gave into alcoholism before falling into depression. Things got so bad that he decided to kill the culprits who took his son's life.

Was Mike a dirty cop?
His former wife's name and fate are never revealed. Mike had one son, Matt, who also became a police officer. Matt married Stacey and they had a daughter, Kaylee. In an extended flashback in the Better Call Saul episode "Five-O", Mike is revealed to have been a corrupt police officer who took bribes.
In 2002, Mike is taken to the police station and demands Jimmy as his lawyer. He asks Jimmy to spill coffee on one of the detectives so that Mike can steal his notebook; Jimmy refuses at first, but ends up doing it.
“My son wasn't dirty,” Mike yells when confronting Stacey. Later Mike admits that he was the dirty one -- not Matt. “The two dead cops had been taking bribes and stealing from drug dealers,” Mike explains to Stacey.
This shot implies Jesse looked thru the window and saw them dispose mikes body. In the next episode Jesse tells Walt that he things Mike is dead and mentions that “walt would have to look over his shoulder if Mike was alive…” this dialogue is referring back to the shot over Walt's shoulder.

Money. After his son was murdered by corrupt cops, all Mike had left was his granddaughter and daughter-in-law. Instead of being able to retire, watch TV, and do whatever he wanted to do in peace, he felt an obligation to the granddaughter because his son was gone.
Sitting at the bar, Mike notices a postcard featuring a photo of the Sydney Opera House tacked onto the wall and forcefully requests that the bartender take the picture down. The bartender refuses Mike's request, stating that the postcards are a tradition and that the patrons of the bar send them in.
The guy is arrested in the same episode, he rats Mike out and all of the money is confiscated by the DEA. Jesse tries to give his money to Kaylee later on in the season but he is stoped by Saul.
Mike returns to the house and tells Stacey about everything. He says that he was a dirty cop, the entire precinct was full of dirty cops, but Matt was not one of them. When Hoffman offered Matt a cut of dirty money, he wanted to inform against his partner.
Jimmy is stopped at Sandpiper Crossing's front desk, preventing him from seeing clients. He hears papers being shredded and goes to a bathroom to hastily write on toilet paper a demand letter for Sandpiper to stop destroying evidence.
Matt put his father on a pedestal before, and this revelation left him devastated. Matt eventually decided to follow his father's advice and took the money. But it was too late, Fensky and Hoffman were scared that Matt would rat them out, so they set up an ambush to kill Matt.
The fact that Saul Goodman is spending his time after Breaking Bad managing a the Better Call Saul Cinnabon in Omaha is a direct callback to the final conversation had between Saul and Walter White before they parted ways for good.
