70mm has a higher resolution than both 35mm and 4K DCP. It captures a bigger, brighter picture, complete with a broader color range and detailed, vibrant visuals. However, by the mid-'90s, showing films in 70mm began to die down, years before showing films on 35mm began to die down.

Well, if you've ever looked through ground glass on a medium or large format camera when doing photography, imagine viewing that image at the scale of a small building. Scenes shot in the 1.43:1 IMAX film format are astoundingly beautiful.
The aim of IMAX is immersion: they aim to fill your vision, including peripheral vision with picture and create an immersive experience. 4k is just a resolution of the traditional cinema wide-screen picture. 4k is adequate for big screen presentation, although 8k would be better.
Dune: Part Two was entirely filmed for IMAX 1.43:1 and 1.90:1 – whereas the original was largely filmed in Panavision (anamorphic) 2.39:1 with 1.65x Ultra Vista anamorphic lenses. That's a lot to compute, but all you really need to know is – Dune 2 in IMAX has come to claim the title of "World's Most Stunning Movie".
At the max, Dolby Cinema supports 12-bit color with 12-bit depth and 10,000 nits brightness. IMAX theatres typically use 2K resolution. Dual 4K laser projectors can only be experienced in a new theatre. This is still less than three times better than standard movie formats.
