For those that haven't read Tolkien's work, it's easy to see why many audiences suspect Gandalf and Galadriel are in love. After all, many of their interactions in The Hobbit trilogy practically scream romance. However, their relationship remains purely platonic in Tolkien's source material.
Fans know from the later Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit tales, that Galadriel eventually finds, falls in love with, and marries Celeborn, the elf who accompanies her down the stairs when the fellowship first arrives in Lothlorien.
Gandalf is much older, because Galadriel was an Elf one of the Children of Illuvatar which awoke in the First Age. Gandalf was a Maia, one of the lesser spirits created by Eru since before the beginning of time. So, Gandalf is much older than Galadriel.
Was there a relationship between Galadriel and Sauron?
Galadriel's relationship with Halbrand, revealed to be Sauron in The Rings of Power's Season 1 finale, was bizarre, to say the least. The two displayed some mild sexual tension throughout the season, causing some Lord of the Rings fans to "ship" the powerful Elf and Dark Lord.
Vickers' comments imply that Sauron's intentions with Galadriel were primarily political in his dealings with the elves and that he was using her to elevate his power as a ruler over middle earth.
In The Lord of the Rings, it is said that had Galadriel chosen to use her powers for evil instead of good, she would have been even more destructive and terrifying than Sauron himself. Galadriel was the greatest and most powerful of all Elves in Middle Earth in the Third Age.
Thus, Galadriel's dark form in Jackson's The Lord of the Rings personified what would have occurred had the Lady of Lothlorien given in to temptation and taken the One Ring for herself. She would have succumbed to evil because the Ring was indomitable, even with her power.
Elrond's was born nearly 600 years after Galadriel, but he was born as a half-elf, and so until he made the choice to become an elf, he aged at a faster rate, though still slower than mortals. Tolkien says that his initial 24 "growth years" took 24 sun years, after which each life-years took five sun years.
First off, Galadriel was the first cousin of Turgon, who was Elrond's great-grandfather, which made them first cousins thrice removed. Furthermore, Elrond was the great-great-grandson of Galadriel's uncle, Fingolfin.
Through her great-grandmother, Idril, Arwen was a descendant of King Turgon of the Noldor. Through her mother, she was the granddaughter of the Elf-queen Galadriel of Lothlórien. Through both of her parents, Arwen was a direct descendant of the ancient Elven House of Finwë.
As previously stated, Gandalf is a Maia and is therefore superior to Elves regarding power. Still, this isn't to say that an elf couldn't develop enough skill and power to defeat a Maia. As a bearer of one of the Three Elven Rings (Nenya), Galadriel would have an edge against Maiar like Saruman and Radagast.
The majority of her powers come from her Ring of Power, Nenya, the Ring of Water. The ring, also known by the names the White Ring and the Ring of Adamant, is one of the three Rings of Power given to the Elves of Middle-earth in the Second Age.
For most of his manifestation as a wizard, Gandalf's cloak is grey, hence the names Gandalf the Grey and Greyhame, from Old English hame, "cover, skin". Mithrandir is a name in Sindarin meaning "the Grey Pilgrim" or "the Grey Wanderer".
Gandalf was an Istari, who was an angel sent to Middle-Earth, He took the form of an old wizard. Gandalf never had a girlfriend, he never married anyone, and he never fathered any children, Not a single one.
Isildur's father was Elendil, descended from Elros, founder of the Kingdom of Númenor. Since Elros was half-elven, from the marriage of Beren to the elf Lúthien, he and his descendants enjoyed much longer life than other men.
And when they later meet at Rivendell, the two clearly have a long history together stretching long before joining the Fellowship. This isn't surprising, as, despite their looks, Aragorn is 87 during this era, and Arwen is over 2700 years old, so they've had more than enough time to know each other.
She was captured and tormented, receiving a poisoned wound. Her sons rescued her and she was physically healed by Elrond, but never fully recovered in mind or spirit, and no longer wished to stay in Middle-earth. She left for the Grey Havens and passed over the Great Sea the following year.
She tells Gil-galad that, "Evil does not sleep; it waits." In The Rings of Power, Galadriel's conviction came across as arrogance and anger. In Lord of the Rings, Galadriel was not shown as a warrior, which makes the comparison with the character depicted in The Rings of Power jarring and difficult to reconcile.
Galadriel's possession of the ring would have made her a powerful evil force, as her desire to be adored would corrupt her. Despite her power, Galadriel couldn't match Sauron's ability to wield the One Ring, and it would have ultimately turned against her.
A legend says that the Wizard Gandalf had brought such a stone, called the Elessar, from Valinor. He gave the Elessar to the Elven Lady Galadriel and remarked prophetically that she would pass it to another, who will also be called Elessar. From this would come Aragorn's royal name Elessar (Quenya for "Elfstone").
Though neither is someone you'd wish to annoy, Galadriel is generally considered more powerful than Elrond in Lord of the Rings. Not only is she older than her Rivendell counterpart, but Galadriel witnessed the light from Valinor's Two Trees, giving her a mystic quality.
In his notes, Tolkien remarks that Sauron saw Galadriel as his equal. Add that to the fact that she's untrusting of Sauron (yes, even when he's in his Annatar guise) and an unwavering, single-minded force, and it's more likely than not that Sauron feared Galadriel — or the potential she held to upend his plans.
Defeated by the Host of Valinor in the War of Wrath, Morgoth was banished from Middle-earth into the Timeless Void, though it was prophesied that he would one day return.
