Katniss is first described in The Hunger Games as a thin young woman with dark hair, olive-toned skin, and gray eyes. In the first book, she is 16 years old. She is unremarkable in District 12, and some make fun of her for being scrawny and underfed.
The skills and qualities she developed to cope with the everyday challenges of being poor, including her ability to hunt, her toughness, and her resourcefulness, turn out to be what keeps her alive through the Games. Katniss is the smart, independent, and fiery protagonist of the Hunger Games series. She is 16 when the series begins and lives in the poor coal mining region of District 12 with her mother and younger sister, Prim.
Because of her mother's depression after her father's death, Katniss was forced from a young age to figure out how to take care of her family so they would not starve.
Katniss can be strategic and measured, but she can also be rather reckless and quick to act in some situations. However, she usually is only like this when she's trying to protect others or send a message, such as when she turns the mannequin into Seneca Crane in front of the Gamemakers.
For example, Katniss Everdeen has a fatal flaw of valuing others (beginning with her sister) and putting herself last. She does this numerous times, especially with Peeta. This major flaw in her character nearly gets her killed several times. She must overcome it to survive.
Fire plays different roles throughout the story, but most often it represents Katniss. Notably, fire is the element that gives the various outfits Cinna designs for Katniss their character.
Katniss is a very introverted person who prefers spending her time alone to hanging out with some friends. She rarely talks, belongs to no group of friends at school, and puts an indifferent mask because she does not want people read her mind too easily.
Just because Katniss is skilled at archery, it doesn't mean that she uses sensory lens to interpret the whole world. Aside from INTJ, Katniss gets often typed as an ISTP or an ISTJ, and despite understanding where both these typing choices come from, they are both flawed perception on her for different reasons.

Katniss has a few major weaknesses, all of which contribute to making her a realistic, well-rounded character. She can't deal with injuries; they make her feel sick. She can be very rash, making snap decisions that don't always work out for her and her allies.
One way it shows loyalty is when the protagonist Katniss Everdeen finds out that her sister is picked for the hunger games she knows that her sister's gentle nature will be her demise so she decides to volunteer. That's why the Hunger games is a great example of loyalty.
Without reading the book, it's easy to overlook this detail. However, those familiar with the book know that Katniss was suicidal and depressed after she had avenged her sister's death. In the scene, what viewers saw was Katniss' failed attempt to kill herself before Peeta saved her.
The way I see it, Katniss is selfish. The Girl on Fire is a sad selfish mess when the reaping comes. She is absolutely unfazed by the thought of her own death, so, when it comes down to her life or that of her sister, she easily chooses her sister.
She isn't passive, she isn't weak, and she isn't some random girl. She's active, she's strong and she's the girl who motivates the story. Throughout the books, Katniss appears unemotional at times. She is often disconnected from emotional triggers or is actively screening herself from painful thoughts and situations.
She manifests five American values: Activity and Work, Efficiency and Practicality, Progress, Freedom and Achievement and Success. The Hunger Games provides a detail information about KatnissEverdeen's personality towards the problem she has to face in her life and how she endures those problems.
It's obvious from the first "Hunger Games" trailer that Katniss' bravery goes far beyond her physical strength. Her sentimentality is just one facet of what makes her so strong.
Katniss Everdeen of The Hunger Games, can be read as a strong female character that represents the Third Wave of Feminism. She has become a measuring stick for strong female characters that have appeared after her.
All this is amidst a constant battle to procure food and water, and indeed she nearly dies of thirst in one of the Games. While she manages to escape both Games with her life, she is left suffering significant psychological distress and displays symptoms consistent with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Not only is Katniss's altruism and selflessness awe-inspiring, but she proved to be quite an intriguing and complex character. Her development also captivated many fans too since her strong leadership skills and tactical mindset helped her come up with some wise and deeply resonating quotes.
Katniss didn't really have the time to consider romance when she was worried about survival. When Peeta and Gale both made their feelings clear, Katniss wasn't entirely receptive despite caring for them both. In the end, her feelings for Peeta and Gale diverged, with Peeta ultimately winning her heart.
“Katniss was an introvert and a survivor,” he told the publication. “She was quite quiet and stoic, you could almost say [she was] asexual. Lucy Gray is the opposite. She wears her sexuality on her sleeve, [and] she really is a performer,” he said, referring to the character of Lucy as the “anti-Katniss.”
