Next to the grave is a sign reading: “You can't escape through the Box Hole.” Just then, a Glader breaks through the woods and attacks Thomas, biting him on the shoulder. The two struggle, and when Thomas throws off his attacker, he realizes it is Ben, the boy from the Homestead who was stung by a Griever.
That night when the Grievers come and take a boy named Dave from the Homestead, Thomas runs into the Glade after them. He attracts the attention of three Grievers, provoking them into stinging him. He escapes from them after being stung dozens of times.
The ending reveals that Thomas escapes with a vial of the cure for the Flare virus, but it becomes symbolic rather than crucial, as many survivors are already immune and no one is capable of harvesting the cure.
In the movies, it is implied that Thomas was immune to the Flare virus, which made him valuable to WCKD. Instead of killing him for his actions, WCKD decided to send him into the Maze as part of their experiment [1].

Is Thomas's blood the cure?
In the movies, no. However, in the books his blood is not the cure to the Flare, it is merely that he is the “prime candidate” and that his brain has provided the best data that will be most helpful in creating a cure.
The disease eats away the minds of the afflicted until they turn into Cranks, zombie-like creatures that roam cities killing people until they're killed themselves. Fortunately for Thomas, he and most of his friends are Munies — immune to the Flare. That's why they've been put through the Maze and the Scorch trials.
Gally is alive in Maze Runner: The Death Cure because he was rescued and saved after The Maze Runner's ending. Although the Gladers thought that he was already dead, Gally confirms that they left him to die. It was after they left that another group stumbled across the maze and laboratory and found Gally still inside.
Due to its current development status, Maze Runner 4's release date is unknown. Disney has never given the film a date on its schedule, even though the studio has releases mapped out through 2027. This might mean that the earliest Maze Runner 4 could be released is 2028.
Although Thomas and his friends — who meet up with former Glader Gally (Will Poulter) on the outskirts of the city — are successful in rescuing Minho from WCKD, they're unable to get the cure to save Newt, who isn't immune like his friends thought.
This virus was created by the Post-Flares Coalition as a means of population control. With most human society bound to fall in a state of disarray after the apocalyptic 2136 Solar Flares, the Coalition took it upon themselves to create the Flare Virus to painlessly kill the survivors.
Throughout the novel, even in the face of life-or-death challenges, Thomas exhibits intelligence, strong problem-solving skills, and a desire to fight for his own survival and that of those around him. Through his actions, Thomas proves himself to be trustworthy, reliable, and resourceful.
Gally got through the same way the other Gladers got through. Gally used the small mechanical device that was found in the dead Griever body. We know this because when Gally appears at the end he is holding it.
Alby commits suicide by walking into a group of Grievers, thinking that he should die there than outside the Maze. One of the main protagonists and is good friends with Thomas and Minho. He used to be a Runner but is no longer able-footed since he was nearly attacked by a Griever.
In the film, Alby was one of the victims of the Griever Attack in the night the doors remained open. While running from the Grievers, Thomas and some other Gladers found Clint and Jeff carrying an unconscious Alby, began trying to find shelter, they were attacked by a Griever.

The epilogue is narrated by Paige. She reveals that after the catastrophic solar flares, the Flare was deliberately created and released by the government as a form of population control. However, the government and WICKED found themselves unable to control the plague.
